No link for this but been told we're after two feyenoord defenders. Don't know their names, but been told they're "young fellas" and one of them has a brother at Man City and we tried to sign him before. Apologies for the obscurity, but that's the extent of my knowledge.

Terence Kongolo has a brother at City

I'd guess the other is Sven van Beek

We 100% need a right back AND a left back.

Holgate is a cb. We haven't seen enough of Kenny yet really. Coleman may not come back the same. Or any of them could get injured.

So you think Valencia and Cuco Martina or whatever his name is would be good squad players?

*Note, they are both league one standard

Personally i'd hope Walsh is now in charge of negotiating and not just a glorified chief scout.

Calls up Ajax and says 35mil....if they say no 40mil.

Get the boy signed and sealed.

The rumours doing the rounds seem to be two entirely different calibre of players

Dendoncker, Tielemans, Klassen, Mertens, VVD, Manolas, Koulibaly, Pickford, Keane, Sigurdsson, Dolberg, Sandro, Kolasanic - all players who are either established top quality, or with the strong likelihood of becoming that.

then we have the likes of Knockaert, Valencia, Kucka, Martina - which all scream absolute mediocrity

Have a horrible feeling that the second group of players will be the list we shop from with maybe 1 or 2 of the lowest profile (Sigurdsson, Gibson, MacGuire) coming in from the first list IF we don't sell Lukaku

that happens then all the people with doubts over Moshiri would have been vindicated, really hope I'm wrong about that

I think valencia would be a good squad player yes. In fact he's shown us this season that off the bench he does a good job.

Don't really know anything about martina.

I have a feeling we won't be buying a right back. Kenny will be given a chance or Holgate will continue there until Seamus comes back. A left back, definitely yes.

The club foreshadowed the signing of Valencia, who wouldn't get in a top 6 squad, on 19 April by leaking to the Echo that it 'would cost less than expected'.
That and giving a winger who'll be 30 in October a long term contract which avoids having to pay a fee to find a timely replacement is exactly what I would have expected under Moyes when we had little money.
We'll see what happens over the summer but the above will make for a deflating start if it comes to pass.

Pretty much...Id be amazed if we signed any on the 2nd list. makes no sense at all.

Don't really know anything about martina.

We have mirallas, lookman and DCL who are our own players, none of whom are currently top notch.

Why add another to the list? Makes no sense to me...

We should be signing a top player if anything so the other 3 are rotation options

But that's my point - we've seen this season that Valencia has had a real impact when coming on from the bench. At times we probably wanted him to start certain games that he didn't, purely because in hindsight it's clear that Koeman knows he is a player that can deliver in 20 minute spells against tired defences. Sometimes that experience and know-how gives a player like that the edge over an academy lad.
He appears to play Valencia the same way as he played Long at Southampton, bring him on in the last 30 minutes to try and change the game.
