Summer Transfer Window 2017

I see Bill has worded it well there with the "if they want to play for Everton" bit.
If they sign for another team it will be because they didn't want to play for us and they are absolved from blame if it doesn't come off.

Thats exactly it. I certainly wont be getting giddy all summer with our track record.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman has been given the green light to open talks for two players he has personally scouted in the past week - Malaga's 21-year-old striker Sandro and Ajax midfielder Davy Klaassen, 24.(Daily Mirror)

After Dolberg he's weirdly the player I want the most.

Seen him twice so not gonna profess any great knowledge, reading up about him, he sounds a bit in the Eric Dier mould, but better in the ball.

Player who can play cb or defensive mid, would add a lot of options, I do expect half our signings could well be in that type of being able to play a couple of different positions well role.

Why Blind wouldn't be a shock to me either.

Nothing wrong with that. Super Kev is the sort we need to fill out the squad, he is just not what we need in a starting XI player. Being able to start him in the occasional cup or euro game and having him to add depth during the season is fine. We just don't want to have to rely on him.

Gonna be loling at this when he's first choice next season with Calvert-Lewin as backup.

That's why I like him for his ability to play both positions. Plus whenever I've seen him, Europe or in the league, he never ever fades in games and Tielemans can sometimes be invisible if it's not going for him. We need stronger players.

Obviously would like both...

What's wrong with that though?
Nothing in itself but a pessimist would say it could be used as an excuse if Bill was playing silly buggers low balling bids and wages when a higher one would secure the player. The player may have wanted to come but better wages and terms were offered by another club.
I know it must be hard to balance getting the players u want whilst also trying to get value for money but we need those players to come in and maybe going out on a limb to secure them this window would mean next summer not having to try so hard if we get the benefit of maybe qualifying for CL

Tielemans, very hyped, but gut feeling is he'd struggle initially in the premiership, in terms of him or Dolberg, take Dolberg 100%.

Interesting thing about the boy Dolberg, reports the other day in De Telegrafe that he is about to hire a new agent, and his current small time Danish one came out stating he was his client until 2018, but he understands that the big Dutch agencies are trying to sign him up etc.

Players tend to switch agents when they want a move. And our managers agent has form for signing Dutch clients under smaller agents already, both koeman and vvd signed that way the last 12 months.

I'm as pessimistic as anyone with Everton and transfers but if someone doesn't want to play for us then that does make it pretty hard to sign them.

Klassen is an interesting one too, he's a weirdly effective player, much like the way Lampard the way he finds space. Can he do it at a better standard league is the usual worry with players from Holland.

I suspect yes but it's a gamble however 90% of transfers are gambles and we've missed out on our fair share of good players playing it too safe.

It's down to finance, the more you have available, then the more calculated gambles you can take.

Moyes had loads of them that worked, and lots that didn't - just down to the fees being relatively low the misses are kinda forgotten.

So Far Koeman is probably batting about average or maybe a bit over on signings (DCL, Lookman - both too early and too young to tell), Williams looks a miss, Stekelenberg a definite miss, Valencia was only a loan so no worries, and Schneiderdlin and Gueye are both obvious hits. Bolasie (injury puts him as a miss so far - but could happen to any signing)

Williams is not a miss tbf, he done a job for us this season and was always short term.
