Dail Mail says that Spurs will go for Barkley and that Newcastle will go for McCarthy.

I hope so.

So barkley want and will be good enough for spurs who are miles better than us and u want rid? Would it not be better to get rid of some of the utter dribble players around him and put decent players in there and we might see what spurs will see in him

Think he's the jewel of the upcoming Italian centre backs mate, Milan taken over now by a Chinese consortium who 'apparently' have a lot of money to invest (that's being questioned already though by some)

Lad is a very very good player, but I'd speculate we would have zero chance of him and the price quoted is frankly laughably low considering his hype etc

..regardless of what we think of Barkley (and Lukaku), he apparently wants to leave the club. It's in our best interest to have a couple of clubs interested in him because we might get a reasonable fee. Life will go on after Barkley and Lukaku leave, the challenge will be in replacing them.

Have to hope the part about him making a secret trip to watch Ajax is true, if so how on earth he couldn't have been much more impressed with Dolberg and Ziyech will forever be a mystery if he thinks that Klassen was the best player in that game.

For what it's worth, Klassen to me seems to be kind of the engine room to that Ajax team, allowing the quality players to do their stuff and benefiting from the space those players allow him through the middle to get late into the box, at a team lacking any form of creativity his threat would be no more than Davies provides for us.

Interestingly i think if we had a lot more talent, movement and goalscoring threat in this team, then Davies scoring rate would go up dramatically as a result, the lad finds space - just that the way we play atm, there is so little movement it's easy to stifle him.

....i wonder if Dolberg's destination is already agreed and a deal has been done. I appreciate he said he's not ready for one of the really big boys but he looks a diamond, surely somebody has broken the bank to get him.

Question for me becomes - are we financially in a position to strengthen the team to the extent we can get the best out of both Lukaku and Barkley, both require a level of player around them to do so, IF we aren't able to do so, then ultimately we could be better building a team without them, maybe that view is becoming more coloured by the fact that neither player is showing any signs that they see their future at the club, and after a whilst it starts to grate.

The only point in keeping Lukaku is if we are going to go out their and strengthen the team significantly - bringing in players who actually can compliment his game - and that's gonna cost a whole lot of money.

My fear is that we spend this summer rebuilding the defence/keeper positions, and think that keeping Lukaku and shoring up the defence will be enough to get the extra points for 4th (it won't) - and the only offensive player of significance we add will be someone like Sigurdsson - who whilst better than what we have - is probably not as good as is needed (take his set pieces out and he's arguably inferior to what we already have with Barkley).

IF we can't afford to fix the defence and seriously improve the attack this summer - then maybe deciding to cash in on Lukaku and throwing all that into 3-4 younger players with huge potential and supplementing it with the likes of Rooney short term may be a better way forward...

Not that i am desperate to see Barkley leave but at this stage of his career he is just to sporadic. With the obvious talent he has, he should be bossing games but he is not for whatever reason. Whether he feels the pressure is too much at Everton being a local lad i do not know. (Although at a top 4 club the pressure will be greater)

I wouldn't be too upset to see him leave as long as we provide Koeman with significant funds to replace.

@BlueToff mentioned yesterday he was talking with a journo who works closely with Ajax and they didn't want to sell any of the squad etc - with the possible exception of Klassen - and for them to consider Dolberg etc would take a 40m type of offer - how realistic or informed that guy actually is though (the one he spoke to) i have no idea.

The only comments i have seen recently is the agent denying any contact whatsoever from Italian clubs (note he specifically was answering rumours about Milan i believe) but telling he didn't say 'any club' and markedly stated Italian specifically. and the player himself saying he wasn't ready for the likes of United and City yet as he need more experience and to be playing regularly for his next level of development.

So i am guesisng they know there is interest and they are trying to see what teams will make contact before deciding themselves.

Funny thing is mate, i think he is ready for the big boys, i kind of believe half the time players big moves fail and are described as being too soon etc - entirely down to the big clubs handling of the player. They sign these lads then seem to want to break down their confidence by not playing them and making them prove that they are god enough from the start.

Imagine what would happen these days if the class of 92' etc came on the scene and United sold say Scholes to Chelsea, the lad would be stuck in reserves or on loan till he was 22

...interesting, £40m could look good in two years time.

..I agree. I just wonder if what he really means is that he wants to play. Going to Chelsea with Costa etc might not appeal but I'm with you, he looks good enough.
