:D

what's your view on Gibson mate in comparison with Keane and Macguire?

....I have to admit to not having seen enough of Gibson to form a definite opinion, Stevon. Macguire's profile/reputation has increased in a short time which might be a concern, he reminds me of Richard Dunne. I probably have him behind Keane and Gibson but he might just be an improver.

Do you think Gibson is the best of the trio? (Sorry just noticed your post above answers my question).

am not convinced about any of the above names.

....I think the other important consideration in any of our so called targets is how they fit into the way RK wants the team to play. It's why I try not to have strong opinions on players. It's important they fit the team model.

The mentions of Keane, VVD, & Koulibulululululuy reminds me a lot of last summer.

There is no chance on earth we are going to get any of these players if another club are interested.

The teams we are competing against can match us on fee & wages but have the added incentive of things like trophies in the past 20 years, reputation and champions league football.

I said back in January we needed to get in there early with Keane as once he got an england cap all the bigger boys started sniffing around.

Virge is going to go for a record fee for a centre back and i would imagine he would want to make a significant step to an elite team.

Our transfer strategy is far to slow, look at Koeman blowing his top over Schneiderlin in January, we identify a player, target a player, wait for other teams to notice we have targeted a player, then lose out on that player

Sadly, this is probably nearer to the truth than most of us want to accept.

Gibson's an interesting player. I first noticed him when he was Stones' centre back partner in an England U20 or U21 game I watched and remember being impressed.

He's left footed, which I think always helps a bit for balance, decent on the ball and is more of a "leader" than Keane and despite them being awful, Boro have had a pretty good defensive record for most of the season. He's been generally very good.

Having said that, I've seen a fair bit of Keane since Christmas and I've been hugely impressed. He's developed an awful lot and looks a class act now, plus he is aerially one of the best centre backs in the division (his partner in crime, Ben Mee, is also quite underrated). I don't think it's any surprise that the big boys all want him. Of the two, I'd say Keane is the stand-out, but Gibson looks to be a good player too.

Keane should of been done and dusted in January, and announced some time around the time it was announced that Keane would be leaving in the summer.
There is no law against signing players on contracts before the window opens (Dahoud to Dortmund, Sule to Bayern). We should of got it all done before then, paid the 5mil or whatever extra to get it sorted and bish, bash bosh we have are primary target sorted before a window is even open.
