Don't think he will either, but i would also not be shocked if he did mate, part of the reason we play 3 centre mids though is we don't have the players to adequately play another system realistically.

Not sure he is key to the way Koeman wants to play actually mate, bet my bottom dollar Koeman wants more tactical discipline in a player which Gueye for all his brilliant qualities lacks badly at times.

Anyway my point before getting sidetracked was more about the lack of goals from our central midfield putting huge pressure on the rest of the team to produce - which we have failed badly to do

Koeman has said he's key though. He wanted a player to set the tempo in terms of pressing and Gueye absolutely does that.

And I do get your point in principle though. I think we may be in for a 'shock' - just don't think it'll be that one!

Will be honest mate, the only two positions/players, i feel are 100% nailed on to be starting for us next season are Davies and Schneiderlin, anyone else's spot is under threat really or could leave.

Part of me still thinks that IF Koeman could get in targets and a replacement he wanted prior, then he'd be perfectly fine with selling Lukaku or Barkley if it would be needed to get someone he really really wanted in

In all honesty, when we are talking about our lists of lets get Koulibaly or VVD or Keane. How do you think we can sway these types of players when they have the Chelseas or the Manchesters also breathing down their necks? I hate seeing when it mentions players that Everton is interested and then I see multiple articles of these other teams on the verge. What are the chances we get any of these high profile players this summer. European Football is enticing but these others teams are CL Football.

Sorry for the "complainy" sounding post, we had a pretty good last two windows and am hoping third time is the charm and we make some big splashes this summer
A big problem we have is that we badly need CBs and so do City, Liverpool and United. Arsenal need at least a backup and if Chelsea lose Ake they will too. So we are in a major competition with everyone but Spurs

Someone asked my opinion on the title race, i simply gave him an answer

Not quite. You have posted endlessly about Chelsea this, Chelsea that.

We welcome fans from any club, from any country on here, and all we ask is that they observe a few niceties and decorum.

This thread is the Everton Summer Transfer 2017 one.

Anything else is Off Topic, and will be dealt with.

Fair enough

Thing is mate take last season

Liverpool needed a cb - they got one - Matip - who wa son no one else's radar
City needed two according to the press anyway and rumours, they ended up getting one of them in Stones and spent the rest of the summer chasing Bonnucci and Laporte etc
United needed one - got linked with lots of big name centre backs and ended up buying Bailly, although they constantly got linked with others (Lindelof being the one everyone thought was a done deal - if so won't they just go back in for him?)
Chelsea similarly got linked with lots of in vogue big names and ended up getting Luiz who not one person called until it happened
Arsenal needed one and they got Mustaffi

Now this summer the media are linking all those teams again with needing another quality centre back, i just don't see it happening, they all needed on least season and they all went and got one, none of their centre backs has fallen of the cliff age wise, and very very rarely does a team address all of its needs as percieved in the media else all the top clubs would have perfect squads with loads of depth.

The most competition will come actually for the likes of Keane, Maguire and Gibson as they will all want to move - all play for bottom of the league clubs and all will be in the 'reasonable' price range and may even be willing to go to a big club as a squad player

For example, Spurs go for Maguire, United take Dier off them, City go for a Bonnucci or Laporte and get him this time around (or pick up a supposedly available Masscherano or the lad from Athletico for example), Liverpool pick up Gibson or some Matip type on the cheap from Germany and Chelsea go shopping in Italy again for Koulibally or Manolas.

In short, there is more centre backs around right now who could seriously improve us than there are teams that need them in the league.

Could be a controversial one this but if the price was right I would like to see us go in for Giroud if we keep Lukaku, not unrealistic target all things considered, he's never relied on pace so age isn't a big factor and as a player who's made quite a few sub appearances he's scored 95 goals for Arsenal in all comps since joining in 12/13 with still a few games to go this season for them. Just for comparison in that same time frame Lukaku scored 103 in all comps, 86 for us and 17 for West Brom. I reckon he'd fit Koemans system nicely too.

We need starters not squad players though! There is no guarantee that any of these players will make the grade and non of them will come cheaply. Tammy Abraham could be the next Patrick Bamford or Luke Garbutt for all we know.

Besides why would Chalobah move from being on loan all the time to come to us and do the same?

trevoh chalobah has never been on loan.

of course we need squad players, we don't have enough attacking players (enough quality ones) nor midfielders who aren't always injured (or good enough)....
