Substitutions today and looking forward

Said it before, if Fellaini is injured why play him? Moyes couldve waited till half time - asked Fellaini if he is OK to go on, or let VDM warm up for 15 minutes. Instead, Moyes brought on 2 injured - or atleast unfit players. It really does show how much he dislikes VDM.

He either dislikes him like you say, or has no trust in him to act under the pressure he would have been under today.

Either way, if he is good enough to have been put on the bench, then I have to agree he should have been chosen before an unfit big fella.

we didn't seem to have any teeth after we took gosling out, jo was playing with the ball in the box a couple of times but he never looked like scoring really

i thought today was a must win game if we're gonna catch villa, and now it really does look beyond us, especially with the arteta news, but lets face it to have that many of our best players missing for so much of the season, there's only so much we can do. think about it, no yak, no arteta, no cahill, no pienaar, no osman, and for the whole second half, not even anichebe. all of those players were immensly important last year, and the fact that we barely even faltered despite missing so many important players shows that we have progressed as a team.

We've got no pace at all in midfield now. Still think Rodwell is gonna have to grow up very, very quickly if we're to salvage any kind of performances. I think he can do it, come on Jack.

He has to adjust mate, thats all. If we had someone that could have had the ball in the box like Jo did, then Jo is the person that would be running onto it. Thats his game. He missed Cahill today, and I hope we get a chance to see him alongside Yak next season(For us obviously).

It's a combination of things, he's an unlucky lad.

He certainly is unlucky however it hasnt all been injuries, personal matters etc. On a couple of occasions he just missed training for no reason aswell as the stupid elbow on Alsono in the derby in 2006, however even for this 20 appearances (id say one or two starts too) in almost 4 seasons is nowhere near good enough, especially since he's completed one 90 minute gamesorry but summer is his time to leave and make way for someone with a bit more bottle to play for the club.

Jo is a bit lightweight, he's like Crouch or Kanu in many ways. He needs a tough guy alongside him, someone who is going to mix it and create space for him. He's still a very talented player though, he just needs support.

Wouldn't suprise me if one of Saha or Jo move to the left/right so that we can fit both in. I noticed Jo moved out to the left for a period against Newcastle.

Stupid elbow on Alonso? I don't agree with that, he barely touched him and the ref was looking to even it up after Gerrard had been sent off.

As I said it's a combination of things, I think we all know that. He's made mistakes but he's also had no luck at all.

I agree, he should be gone in the summer and he will be. Whilst he is on the bench and we are looking to win a game though I think he's a decent option. A better option than another defensive midfielder or unfit players.

I actually thought Jo was pretty good today. All the things he did wrong were just lack of match practice. Can't think of a single wrong decision or lack of application. He's got a good football brain.

I think he knew what he was doing.

Agreed but he's certainly not helped himslef, and if he wanted it a bit more could have taken a chance he was given, and he has had enough chances at this club to take one.

Sure he could come on and do a job, but Moyes obviously knows better, and im fully behind Moyes, rather than Van Der Meyde

He came on and created the goal against Liverpool, he is a winger and if anything he can provide balance to a team that was all over the place.

Moyes took the easy option, bring on another defensive midfielder with Neville and Rodwell already on the pitch. I don't think Moyes did know better in this situation. He brought another defensive player on against 10 men.

Fellaini isnt a defensive player. I think to keep the shape once arteta got injured a central midfielder needed to come on.

I'm talking about Castillo coming on. You already have two central midfielders on the pitch in Rodwell and Neville, defensive minded central midfielders.

Bringing Van der Meyde on would've provided much better balance, Victor could've given Jo support and Rodwell and Neville could play in here natural positions.

Instead we moved Neville to the right wing, what's he doing to do there? He'll always put in a shift but we are trying to win a game against an average team here, he's not going to create anything.

The game was crying out for a bit of quality and more than anything a bit of width. Moyes brought a defensive midfielder on and a battering ram. Neither where going to win us the game.

Sorry i thought you ment Fellaini, coz when you said after they went down to ten men.

Im not so sure anichebe and gosling were the wide players in the first half. I thought that he created a few mishaps from Newcastle with this formation. Maybe Van Der Meyde could have provided more width, but im not so sure about creating chances through him, bar the cross for Goslings goal, has he really done anything that you can remember whereby we look capable of scoring? Plus the fact he had time and space to cross the ball in the derby, arguably any of our players could have crossed the ball.

You could aim it at both substitutions really, I didn't agree with either. For me Saha or Van der Meyde would've brought much more balance to the side than Fellaini or Castillo.

We where looking to win the game, we needed something a bit different and bringing a defensive midfielder and a battering ram didn't change anything. We just hoofed it to Fellaini and Castillo sat deep and kept things moving along with seven other defensive minded players.

I would've preffered something a bit more positive. Especially with our only creative player leaving the field and a wide player.
