The information on this page only applies to you if you received a Maintenance Loan from Student Finance Wales in academic year 2010/11 or 2011/12.

Am I eligible for partial cancellation of Maintenance Loan?

If you took out a Maintenance Loan in academic year 2010/11 or 2011/12 from Student Finance Wales, the Welsh Government may provide you with a partial cancellation of up to £1,500. The reduction will be applied to the balance of your student loan by the SLC when you start repaying.

Example 1
If you took out £3,000 Maintenance Loan in 2010/11 or 2011/12 and your first repayment to us is £50, we would cancel £1,500 of your outstanding student loan debt.

Example 2
If you took out £1,200 Maintenance Loan in 2010/11 or 2011/12 and your first repayment to us is £5, we would cancel £1,195 of your outstanding student loan debt.

Fantastic deal for anybody out there who wants to wipe off a large amount of their current debt right now.

WTF is going on, really. You borrow money then don't have to pay it back, and Wales wonders why it's a third world country....

Honestly, when I read the thread title I thought this was one of those 'Prince of Nigeria' scams. Pay us just a small fee and we will give you tons of cash back! All we need is your mothers maiden name, the access codes to your bank account and your NIN.

Sorted.

Yeah but we have to pay 5p for carrier bags by law in the shops so we have an abundance of spare cash floating around that doesn't get wasted housing Polish and Romanian immigrants in million pound mansions in That Big London place.

Koff Taffs.
You've probably passed a law in your tin-pot assembly to "fund" this which will then be paid for by English tax-payers.

Given our eldest has just started Uni I may be biased against the welching Welsh.

Sorry BML/Phenom and Anglesey blue aka Kurt ... grabbing barstewards.

Is this a bad time to remind you that we don't pay for our prescriptions either ?
