The thing is though, would tighter gun laws make that much difference?

We have them here in Britain, but we still had Dunblane and Rhys Jones and more.

If someone wants get hold of a weapon, they'll probably get one.

It is still quite easy to get a shotgun licence in the UK but handguns and automatic weapons are near impossible unless you have links to serious organised crime - and they don't come cheap.

Same here. It is much easier to get a shotgun, as they are much harder to conceal, and beyond a short distance significantly lose their killing power and accuracy.

Load a shotgun with rocksalt for a very painful home defence option.
