Strikers

Can anyone pull up a list of PL strikers that have consistently scored 15-20 goals a season over the last few years?

Just wondering how big a pool of players we're fishing from here.

Did this (kind of) in another thread a little while back, basically you're looking at Van Nistlerooy, Henry, Drogba, Defoe, Shearer and Lampard (could be a couple more off memory).

IMO jelavic has to go. On form he's a boss slotter but this season has more than proved he doesn't offer much else. He's 27/28, on quite big wages and I'm pretty sure he wants to be No.1 striker. Certainly don't think he's the type who can play backup and come in to the side when needed and perform (he gets rusty quick). Anichebe on the other hand can definately play the role of super sub and backup striker.

Again IMO we need 3 snr strikers going into next season. Jelavic would still bring in the money we paid for him at least and there are plenty of PL clubs who would pay 5M or so for a striker with his potential ability. For us, we have to buy a marque signing up front and that 5M will help towards it or allow for signing a young quality striker to add to Vic and the marque signing.

Ideally (not saying we can get him) perfect for us now would be signing Rooney. A quality striker who can play No.10 off a striker or can play up top as a lone striker with a midfielder (Barkley, mirallas) playing off him. Obviously Rooney is a long shot and unrealistic but a simlar type player would be great.

As for mirallas he should be our secret weapon with no defined posistion. He can play RW LW ACM CF. rotate him around all the posistion over a course of a season and opp teams won't be able to plan for him and he will course havoc next season!

I'd be happy if we can replace Heitinga with lescott
Keep fellaini and add Fer
Sell jelavic and add a marque striker and a young one
Sell Naismith, add a winger (Sinclair) and Donovan as a Xmas present
Couple of free/loan squad fillers.

That tv money needs to be invested this season, IMO Fellaini will still be worth the same next summer if we can blagg him into one more season (Playing CM) and have a real go!!

Thanks Del. A quick scan doesn't suggest great pickings there. You have people like Holt, Odemwingie, Dempsey who are in our price range but haven't sustained things.

Even guys out of our price range like Defoe or Adebayor haven't been that consistent. Obviously Benteke and Michu are getting headlines now, but can they do it again next year?

I think the new manager will get something out of Jelavic and he will score goals again, just a hunch.

I would personally like to have the phrase "come good" banned from the English language.

"Ahh next season lid, next season he'll be boss"...why not now? You're getting paid 50 bags a week to not put your shot out for a throw in, awful.

I don't think he's doing it on purpose. Some new motivation from a new manager may help him out. They're not robots.

Whatever about holding onto Jelavic to see if he was suffering from "second season syndrome", no such excuse exists for Anichebe. He has had more than enough oportunities and has failed to deliver. Those who argue that his allround play has improved miss the point. He is meant to score goals, he doesn't. He plays up front on his own or with support and just does not get into scoring positions. A few years back Phil Brown tried to tempt him to Hull and he threw a strop when Moyes refused him a move. Now is a good chance to let him fulfill his dream of playing for Hull now that they are back in the big league. Bye bye Vic. Make sure the door doesn't hit you on the arse on the way out.

How much would we get for him, and what kind of replacement could we get for the same money?

Nah keep vic, he's improved massively. Sack off Jelavic, he looks like he's running through treacle.

Jelavic scored more goals in 2 years than Vic has in his entire career, and there's only a couple of years age difference.

Yes but alsong as we sign another striker to be our No.1 Vic is much better with a role coming off the bench than jelavic. If we sign another striker I don't think it's benificial for us or jelavic to keep him.

True, maybe Anichebe won't be happy with that either though? Bit of an ego on him. I'm holding out for Jelavic to come good, he suits our style of play if we link him up. Obviously a Negredo type would be better but we never seem to attract big name strikers.
