I don't think goals per game is that fair as it counts 60 seconds at the end of a match as the same as 95 minutes on the pitch.
Vaughan has 7 goals in 8 starts for us in the Prem. Or 8 goals in 60 appearances if you include all the times he was on the pitch. Don't have the minutes on pitch stats for him but if each sub appearance was for 15 minutes you'd end up with 8 x 90 minutes + 52 x 15 minutes = 1500 minutes on the pitch scoring 8 goals. That is 16.6 full games.
Suddenly 8 goals in 16.6 games looks pretty good. Whilst 8 goals in 60 games looks bad.
