Steven Naismith

It's funny that Nais has all of a sudden become the most talked about player on GOT; and it isn't because he's tosh either!

Don't know if this has been posted, but just for those who prefer stats than opinions to be persuaded:

Who has the best goals per minute ratio at Everton?

It’s not top scorer Romelu Lukaku. Nor in-form forward Kevin Mirallas. And with just one match played in his Everton career so far, it would be unfair to include Lacina Traore.

The answer is Steven Naismith, with a goal every 164 minutes this season, better than Lukaku (182) and Mirallas (398).

So how about chance conversion?

Once again it’s the little Scot. While Lukaku converts 20 per cent of his chances and Mirallas 11 per cent, Naismith is way out in front with a hugely impressive 40 per cent chance conversion.

What about shooting accuracy then?

Yet again Naismith leads the way.

He has a superb accuracy ratio of 73 per cent – compared to Lukaku with 62% and Mirallas’ 49%.

It all suggests that – used in the central role he occupied for Kilmarnock and Glasgow Rangers, rather than the wide positions he has so often taken up in his Everton career – Steven Naismith could be so much more than a supersub.

“He has played in different positions but when he is central he is at his very, very best,” said Roberto Martinez after Sunday’s scoring performance.

It could still be time for Steven Naismith to claim centre stage at Goodison.

He is a decent finisher but still lacks pace and doesnt have a particularly good touch. As was stated earlier he looks a good option if we need a goal to chuck on behind one or both of our giants

I still don't rate him. He's popped up and bagged a few important goals recently which seems to have brought his confidence up and got a good amount of fans off his back. I'm pleased about that because it's never nice disliking one of your own.

That said, I'm not going to suddenly pretend that I think he's now a good player who's capable of doing a job for us, he simply isn't. Too slow, not a good crosser, not a wizard on the ball and isn't physically imposing. Only thing he's got going for him, that we've seen, is that he has a knack for being in the right place at the right time. Then again, so do lots of other players.

If he keeps scoring then all power to him. I'd always much prefer a player make me look an idiot by helping us win than proving me right and being crap.

Played brilliantly again today against two monstrous centre halves in comparison. Been pleasantly surprised with this lads form recently, shows what a bit of patience and belief from the gaffer does for a player !

Just doesn't stop running and people are starting to see the smart runs he makes to pass to him. He was one of our better ones in an all together pretty good, if toothless performance.

He sees the vaults, he scores...

Mad how opinions change, His best attribute is the space he creates for the players to run in around him, people who only watch the ball don't see that but he was doing from the start even when he used to get boo's when coming on (why our own fans can do that to their own player for just not playing well enough I will never know). It used to churn my stomach seeing that. Now he has a turn of pace more confident on the ball and starting to make killer passes

He isn't the best in the world but is a huge asset to us that goes unnoticed, I imagine the people who were giving him grief were the same people that were still saying Jelavic will come good.
