No, he either plays in the middle or on the left/right handside of a diamond formation. He still plays a central role.

I'd like to see Pienaar in the middle, I've always said that. I think he'd be better than Osman in there but I do think Arteta is the best central creative midfielder we have at the club.

Arteta keeps hold of it, you can trust him to keep hold of it without losing it. That alone pushes our team forward and gets the midfield into better attacking positions. Pienaar is similar to Osman, he's a pass and move player. He's not going to get a hold of things and control. He can't control the pace of the game whereas Arteta can.

I think Arteta is good on the wing at Home, it's a smaller pitch and we get him in the final third alot more. Away from home we play alot deeper and opposition teams man mark him. He doesn't get into good attacking positions and he can't control a game from a wider position.

He moved centrally against Hull who are a physical team and for the second half he was excellent, he pulled the strings and got the likes of Saha and Yak into good positions. His through ball to Saha was top quality.

I think he's wasted outwide alot of the time, he's stuck to the touchline where he can't get into the game. You need a player like him involved for 90 minutes.

The good thing about having Arteta, Osman and Pienaar is they can all interchange so hopefully Arteta will be more involved. Drifting between right, left and centre.

I can see the sense in awfull lot of what you say mate, but have to say he only became effective for me when he moved out on to the flanks, Theres a big difference with one full back ahead of you then two central midfeilders biting at your heels and a centre half in fornt of you.

I think its a little unfair saying he stuck out on the byline he often cuts inside and plays more ceuntral though can often take it to the touch line and beat players coming in or cross it, is it not a good thing that while hes in that postion he has the choice surely that offeres more to the team, i do agree though we need soemone with vison cenrally that why were all screaming for Manny, id go for Pienaar myself i agree that hes a pass and move type, but he has a superb apssing rate to and in some ways his vison and speed of thought is better then Arteta' s i think certainly he has more of an engine too!

Ah who knows maybe it will all click into place today, and we wont have to worry anymore! Should be intresting to see how we do against this level of opposition, i.e. we've been unlucky with fixtures playing the [Poor language removed] and all the promoted teams with their tails up not to mention Leige, these are buissness games.

Agreed, which is why I was very disappointed when the Obbina deal fell through, had hoped he would be stuck wide right pushing Arteta central.

Best position for Defour is central midfield just behind strikers, can cover DM position as well not like Marouane ofc (less strength, less aerial ability but more technique, more pace, incredible endurance, good vision of the game).

Arteta has more technique than Defour, more presence in conclusion area, not really same players imo.
