Liverpool have been granted a reprieve over plans for a 60,000-plus-seat stadium at Stanley Park after planning consents expired last month. The local‑authority deadline for approved works to take place elapsed on 19 June.A council spokesman, however, said it considers that the club has undertaken "sufficient works" in the three years since the decision to approve development was taken in 2008. The spokesman said it is now waiting on the club to take up the £300,000-a-year lease on the park site but he would not discuss when it must do that by.
Says the Digger section in the Guardian.

I dont know why the assumption is that they have an option of staying and increasing capacity at Anfield or moving into the Park - they dont. They have three months to either commit to the old plans to shift themselves or stay with the capacity they now have. Joe Anderson is adamant on this. The council wont allow the present footprint to be extended or built up and further disrupt the residents. They want the regeneration that was promised and these Yanks aren't onboard with that old plan.

Chheeky tvvats Liverpool FC.

News to me, I thought they'd knocked the new ground on the head and were meant to be expanding Anfield now ?

It's obvious Liverpool dont want to move into Stanley Park now, so are putting pressure on the council to drop opposition to increasing the capacity of Anfield to 60,000....something that club said was not possible (or desirable for the residents) when they put the Stanley park plans forward.

I fully expect this Ian Ayre tvvat from LFC to whip up a fan campaign against Joe Anderson and the rest of the council to step in and sell the residents down the river.

Spot on mate. Its horribly predictable isn't it?

Anything is fair game as ling as they get their own way. I can't wait for the day that someone stands up to them.

If they do go that route, it'll mean CPO's getting handed to resdients in homes they want knocking down. I'd like to hear then what the response from the Spirit of Shankly "union" with their "socialism" have to say about that. Mass street demos in support of the residents maybe?

Fnar!
