Too little, too late some people might say.Would it change your mind on certain players' futures if they had a storming end to the season ?

What refreshing comments!

"So for the next eight games, we are all fighting to be part of the future of the football club."

Well said Bobby.

As I've said before on here, he will have learned (or is it learnt...) more about his players this season than last. A good few have let him down - get rid.

That was my reaction when I read it on the front page just now.

Martinez said: “It’s not just a motivation for players, it’s the reality. We are in the results business, and always we need to be assessed in terms of being part of a winning team.

“The mentality of the football club is to win things and to be consistent in terms of the level that we showed last season. So for the next eight games, we are all fighting to be part of the future of the football club.”

Some people would do well to remember this.

We're not in an image business, we're not in a reputation business, we're not in a gaining plaudits business. We're not in a philosophy business.

We're in a results business, where winning comes ahead of everything else.

We're sure as hell not in a "play nice looking but ineffective football" business.

He wasnt talking bollox for once.

I wonder which players he means tho?

I don't think he means Mirallas as he's off anyway.

Anyway, I'd guess:
  • Pienaar to show he can still hack it at this level for another year
  • Osman for the same reason
  • Barry for the same reason
  • Alcaraz to earn a new contract
  • Howard for the most obvious reasons ever
  • Gibson if he can get through the rest of the season without injury
  • McGeady to show he's worth keeping

Im not convinced Mirallas is 100% off.

Think we would struggle to offload any of the other players mentioned to be honest, Howard would probably be the only 1 we would get decent offers for.

It's taken until April with the season pretty much over for him to stop spewing his insufferable positivity guff and start speaking sense. Let's hope some of the players take his warning seriously and pull their fingers out. With one or two exceptions the squad and management have not been good enough in any way. Time to perform or they can all do one.

just because he's positive in the press doesn't mean he was all sunshine behind closed doors though. we'll never know but it's probably somewhere in between
