in memoriam - 1961-2023
Seems to me we're already at bare bones time

Goal: Howard (Mucha)
Backs: Jags, Baines (if he isn't going), Heitinga, Hibbert, Sylvain, Neville
Mid: Osman, Gibson, Fellaini (if staying), Barkley (if fit & ready to start), Rodwell (if fit), Coleman (if fit), Gueye
Forward: Jelavic (assuming he's not poached), Cahill (assuming he isn't leaving), Anichebe (if he's ever fit), Vellios

So, with that in mind - assuming defence isn't really a big problem at the moment - which 6 players can be relied upon to be fit, staying and capable of playing mid/attack out of that lot?

Osman, Gibson, Fellaini, Jelavic - the rest have question marks over them - fitness, staying at the club etc.

Not clever - we definitely need 4-5 players from somewhere!

Duffy should defo be in the squad, he's a good player and if he develops in the right direction he'll be a great player, no doubt.

Unless he has Explosive Knees Syndrome, that is.

Goal -- Howard/Mucha
LB -- Baines
RB -- Neville / Hibbert
CB -- Heitinga/Jagielka/Distin/Duffy/Yobo
CM -- Osman/Rodwell/Barkley/Fellaini/Gibson
RM -- Coleman
LM -- Gueye
CF -- Jelavic/Anichebe/Velios

With Cahill somewhere in there as well.....

Need LB cover + 2 wide midfielders.

Next season we will implode in an orgy of thin-squad-forced-to-only-play-youngsters-syndrome. Like Villa last season.

It'd be preposterous if we can't even manage a transfer kitty of some £5m though.

Zatara, I'd say we also need a RB.

It would be a luxury to get another RB at the moment. Whilst we still have Neville hibbert and Coleman there is no way we will be dipping in the Market for a RB.

Clearly we need 2 wingers and a back up striker as a minimum.

Zatara, I'd say we also need a RB.

And I say we offload;

Anichebe, Cahill, Yobo + a centre back and even then we'll need to sell someone big like Baines to be able to strengthen RB and CF positions....and even then we'll need another left back :)

Will Garbutt be ready to return as a squad player? He's done well this season (I know it's 'only' Cheltenham).

On paper, our squad does look thin. That said, has Moyes ever really been known for having a large squad? I'm willing to bet if you look at squad numbers across the seasons since Moyes took over that we've probably been among the lowest in numbers in the league throughout his reign.
