I might be wrong, and if so then fine, but lets take a good hard look at the first team squad as of right now.

Fans can get their knickers in a twist over anything they like, but surely common sense says a midfield of 7 that includes vidarsson, vdm, and SDF is looking a bit light.

The 'Cahill Conundrum' is a factor, does he pick up bookings easier in a midfield four than when we go five in the middle and make the opponents work for ground.

Yet another Big summer of Big decisions for Moyes - all brought about by his own relative success last season, tough calls need be made.
 

Well 7 midfielders isn't bad and lightweight as it may be, it was good enough last year and to be honest I would be happy with no cups and 6th place again, as its sustainability in the European places that is important.

But I'm sure Moyes has some players up his sleeve, I am not concerned and neither should anyone else.

Moyes has waited until the season has ended fully, and now he is having a break. I expect some signings within the next two weeks. Although I am concerned about the 10million pound kitty that some people have been saying. I can't see that being the case.
 

erm, we had fernandes boost the midfield from 7 to 8 since january, scoring twice.

he wont be here next season.

Yep and i remember January time we were screaming out for a ceative/linking central midfeilder hel be a big miss and needs replaceing.

Personaly id blow the budget on a

Creative/Linking central midfeild player - Reo Cooker IMO Dare i mention the G. word!

Left Sided Midfeilder - Richardson/Kightley (I Know Ghost)!

Personaly a right sided midfeild player and Arteta in the middle. Or as another.

A full back if there as cheap as chips.

Well Fernandes wasn't exactly a shining light since January was he. Can't attribute us finishing 6th to him. Then if you see that we lost Cahill for most of the second half of the season we may have finished higher.

So don't worry about "Raining on My Parade" suits cos you didn't.

I think you two need to go and have a hug.

Anyway we are light in midfield we have all been saying this for ages. A left sided midfielder and also maybe a right sided midfielder so we can move Mikel back into the centre. What does everyone think of a 3-5-2 formation liek this:

I think Pip can do a job as a right hand sided wing back- I think the best other left sided wing back would Baines. That team to me looks pretty [Poor language removed] hot with the addition of only one player.

Do we need one? It is vital to our survival? I'd like one sure, but I think a solid defensive midfield anchor man is more important, and I'm still not convinced that Arteta is better out on the wing. I would rather see a natural winger on both sides.

Which brings me to Kissock or Vidarsson. Although low on experience I would like to see them blooded, perhaps in the Carling Cup. You don't want a hardman on the wing now do you? Skill and pace is what's needed and someone who can cross the ball.

I would also like to see McFadden play a more wider role from the right, and perhaps, perhaps VDM may get his head sorted, but I doubt he will be allowed to stay.

Jagielka may well be that defensive midfielder we need, so I would like to see us get Koumas and maybe another wide player. Push Arteta into the middle with Cahill. I will also say that the door isn't completely shut on Fernandes but its looking unlikely.

Which brings me to the player that you desperately want more than a Pele, Maradona and Cruyff midfield. I just don't believe he will come, so it makes it easier for me to dismiss him as a valuable asset. If you truly believe he will come then tell me, but I really can't see it.
