If Everton do get all 3 players and if Spurs and Arsenal have a lot of cup football, these are the only two I think Everton would then have a chance of overtaking.

I think some of the commentary about overtaking is a little short sighted. Spurs have just got to a European final, Arsenal have just won two trophies and got to a European final last season. Both are commercially a long way ahead of Everton.

That being said, on the pitch I think it's a bit closer. I mean you could arue Spurs have endured a pretty poor 18 months and are probably due to bounce back, and Arsenal are bedding in a lot of younger players who will improve, however I think we could get closer to both. The game at WHL last year, had we won I think we moved above Arsenal and very close to Spurs. Typically we bottled it and Spurs/Arsenal went on decent runs.

Spurs and Arsenal could certainly improve, but if you stay where you are, it's a reasonably target for us.

As for the rest, yes they look quite settled, but football's a funny game. You wouldn't have guessed in 2018 that within a year or so you guys would be languishing in the bottom half. Football can be quite changeable. There's still something about OGS I don't fully trust at United

Dunno about a poor 18 months cos it was only June 1st last year Spurs were in the champions league final and had just finished the season in 4th place. I would say a poor 12 months cos we just finished 6th.

As for the game at WHL where if you had won you would have gone above Arsenal, bottom line, both teams were poor that night but Everton again lost and continued to be dreadful for the rest of the season. The old "If my aunt had balls" saying comes to mind.

Three or four new players COULD drastically improve Everton but I don't think any of the normal top 6 will be as bad as last season (ignoring Leicester.)
It's also pretty fair to say that in general, 50% of new signings are not classed as a "successful" signing so even with as many as four new players I still think at best it's 7th for Everton.
Oh, and I think it's between Spurs and Arsenal for "only" the 5th and 6th spot.

Really disappointing compared to Sunderland and Leeds ones.

Clear that Spurs got a grip of it to ensure it was a glorified PR piece.

It needed some more external view - fans, fan media, journalists (and not just the one who is onside) etc

The Sunderland and Leeds ones were more interesting based on their situations. Kinda told itself drama wise.

They'll go all out for it, like wolves did, and rightly so, a lot of clubs will see winning the Europa as a passage into champions league football with it being so difficult to get top four.

It will effect their form, it caught up with wolves in the finish, but Rodgers and Leicester will want to do well in it.

You only do well in it if you win it, otherwise you have wasted your time.
Leicester wont win that, although I cant see them getting top 4 so as you say it might be the shot they have at CL next season.

I guess. But the level where the club's are at would've made it easier for one to be more open than the other.

Don't think it has anything to do with the network they're commissioned on, more the club's they've made them with.

Especially who's paying the most for the access.

Relative to how you had performed in the previous years, I think it was a poor 18 months. Your form up until the midway point of 18/19 had you close to Liverpool and City. Then your form went and you lost half of your remaining games that season. Bizarrely, you somehow made it to the final of the champs league, which to my eyes was quite fortunate. I wish Everton could both be this 'poor' and fortunate though.

We're well away from you, but 3 new midfielders will drastically improve us. I agree new signings don't always work, but watch Tom Davies and Sigurdsson in midfield together and you'd question how any incoming player could not improve us. Ironically, we night 'improve', but only go 2 or so places higher in the league. I'd be happy with that if we're playing better and next summer we're a slightly more attractive proposition to players.

Interestting as always. Haven't watched the City or Dortmund one. It may be the editing, but I found Mourinho rather odd. He isn't very natural with people, and seems to have an enormous ego. I can see why things often go wrong for him after a time.

I haven't watched the City one. In fairness Monsour has done a lot for Manchester hasn't he? And I mean, it's hard objectively to have a bad word said against Pep, he just seems an allround good egg. I'm not sure it makes the most interesting television though!

I might give the Dortmund one a watch if I can work out how to work sub titles!

I think Mourinho as an underdog is going to be a really exciting prospect for Spurs. The only danger i can see is games coming thick and fast and keeping key players fit.

Arsenal have some very exciting young players like Saka, Martinelli, Gabriel and Saliba. They have a good chance to be fully fit over the season simply because of their ages and with Aubameyang as their get out of jail card.

It seems to me that Spurs have the experienced manager and experienced team while Arsenal have youth from manager down to the emerging talents. It will be an interesting tussle.

While Arsenal have the youth, their youngsters may have drops in form and Spurs experience may carry them home...its a toss up.


With Everton we would need to have our starting 11 fit for most games as we dont have the quality depth in several positions.

We will be reliant on Richarlison,Doucoure,DCL, James and Kean to score goals and James (again), Digne, Gordon and Iwobi to assist.

If we had landed Gabriel + sealed Emerson from Barca (on top of Doucoure/Allan/James) i would be very confident of pushing into the top 6 (if our players stayed clear of injury).

Major weak links in defence (CB/RB) are a concern but providing we do sign a top right back i think we'll be in the mix.

Alot will depend on Richarlison hitting 20+ goals and Kean coming good...as well as our new signings gelling.

I’ve been a big admirer of the Spurs team for the last 4 or 5 years and I actually thought they were better than many others thought.

That team should have won trophies and IMO they were underrated and have under achieved however I do fear for them now.

I think they’re in for a really poor season. I’d have bit your hand off for Mourinho being here last year but I think he’s been poor and their transfer business has been really underwhelming this summer. They’re behaving like a mid table club and that’s where they’ll finish this season IMO. Somewhere between 8th and 12th.

I’m not having a dig at the Spurs fans posting on this site either, I like them all but as we found out ourselves last season a bad window can change things very quickly. We went from very good form in the 2nd half of the season, outplaying Liverpool at Anfield with basically the same squad we have now, bar 2 and showing top 4 form, better than Leicester when Rogers arrived etc, to the shambles of this and we only lost Zouma and Gueye. Both of whom weren’t replaced.

I do think this could be the beginning of the demise of them.

A fair and easily understandable point of view but most of us Spurs fans knew yet again that we wouldn't be spending much but surprisingly, myself, I'm quite happy with only the two cheap signings we've made as they are very much for our weakest two posistions.
We could do with a left back and in case of a Kane injury a backup striker but because of the financial restrictions covid has inflicted on us, surprisingly I'm "content" with our squad and think a far(ish) away 5th or 6th and hopefully a very good run in Europe.

As said, I totally understand your opposite point of view
