Tottenham Hotspur say a legal wrangle means they are "highly unlikely" to move into their new stadium as expected for the 2017-18 season.

The news means Spurs must seek an alternative ground to play their home games for one season.

Plans for the 58,000-capacity stadium, next to the current ground, took a big step forward in July when a compulsory purchase order of land was approved.

But Tottenham said the landowners were challenging that decision.

"The club has revised its construction programme in order to take the shortest possible time to construct," said a Spurs statement.

"This now therefore involves the club moving away from the Lane during construction for a period of one season, to start at the beginning of a season in order to comply with Premier League rules.

"We are currently undertaking due diligence on alternative stadium options."

Is Elstone at Spurs now?

Searched for a Spurs thread...didn't find one...

Further to the Secretary of State confirming the Compulsory Purchase Order in respect of the last remaining land to be acquired for the stadium site, the Club can confirm that the landowners, Archway Sheet Metal Works Ltd and the Josif Family have exercised their right to seek to challenge the Secretary of State's decision in the High Court. The challenge proceedings will now commence and we await notification of the earliest possible date for the High Court Hearing.

please respect the no swearing rule
Woolwich c***ts waited until the last day of the six week window before putting in their appeal.

What right do Spurs have to force businesses out of their site? Its not like its for benefit of new motorway or anything.. Im on their side.

surely they are entitled to do that? Also they are defending their family business and from what i've read the offer they have been made is a mickey take. I think its pretty disgusting the way spurs and levy are trying to force them out. There was a time when a football club was part of the community. Spurs have acted appalingly all for the sake of a few more quid.

Their business is worth £1mn & they have been offered £5mn & they want £25mn. Taking the piss. Spurs have settled with & relocated 70 other businesses amicably - they obviously didn't think we were riding rough shod over them.

Harringey is one of, if not the, poorest boroughs in London. Without the club it would be a wasteland. The vast majority of the other local businesses & residents are all for the new stadium. It will see the tube-line by extended to Northumberland Park & help regenerate the whole area.

Anyone that thinks this is a David vs Goliath battle on altruistic principles is sorely mistaken.

i may be wrong but from what i understand they are being offered more land but miles away and they have to pay to build a new factory. The guy who runs is it 70 and has lived there for years. A lot of money must have changed hands for the council to overrule the planning experts who suggested there was not enough benefit to the community to justify it. The whole thing stinks as far as i can see and its disgusting. Again i may be wrong but this is what i have read.

Did you lot turn down all that profit on Bale, then? Will all those flats being built by the club go for affordable rents?

It is their land, they have a right to get what they want for it.
