Split travel advice

There should be no problems it was a storm in a tea cup last week. The main problem was in my opinion the way the police handled it. Hajduk Split fans were just allowed to buy cheap ale from the supermarkets and get bevvied in the streets. The police should of set up a fan zone and tried to prevent people from buying excessive amounts of ale before the game as was happening around St Georges hall on Thursday. I think last week's problems were ale related, for the rest of the match there were no problems. Evertonians should just keep a low profile, drink in their hotel or nearby. Try to blend in with the tourists and you'll be fine, don't sing songs in the streets and draw attention to yourself, because that will annoy the police. Learn a bit of Croatian, dobar dan (good day), hvala (thank you), molim (please), kako ste (how are you) and you could perhaps blend in a little bit better. Hopefully we beat these tommorrow and hopefully our fans enjoy and safe trip to Croatia.

lol you made of money?

Just been and it was £7.50 a bottle of beer!

Spent 6 weeks there living in an attic flat of some family. Drank homemade wine every night before we went out and eddie irvine and his brother felt sorry for us i think and bought more rounds than we bought i would say good spot tho. Lots of italian chicas there still??

Whilst it will not be any surprise to hear that trouble occurs, given last week's scenes, I think most of us would like a source more reliable than Twatter.
I know from someone there first hand and seen pictures of his face after being attacked last night . Also heard about blues being robbed .

Thanks for the decent post, but some of your statements have to be corrected.
It is not true that 2000 Hajduk fans came to Goodison Park. In fact, not many Hajduk fans visited Goodison Park, according to a few Croatian newspaper 850 (for example http://www.total-croatia-news.com/s...-liverpool-important-information-for-thursday). Away End capacity in Goodison Park is around 2940, split between upper and lower tier. Upper tier was empty. Lower tier capacity is slightly less than 1700, and wasn´t full. So the real number of Hajduk fans could be either the 850 or a similar number.
It is not true that the Hajduk fans did not attack children and women. Several of my friends were in the match, the Park End and Paddock, and saw how the Hajduk fans threw articles into parts of the stadium where children, women and old people sat.

Hi to all, my 1st post here and sorry for my english.
Just want to tell you few things.
Hajduk fans were in Liverpool for few days without any incident.
Something about 2000 our fans were welcomed i Liverpool and your fans will be welcome in Split too.
You will have fan zone for your fans in beautiful part of town.
All media hipe about incident during the first game was exaggerated.
Yes, we have ultra hard core group in Torcida, but they never fight with "women and children" as I read here, that is not true and never hapened, so noone will attack you if you are in Everton shirt or drinking beer and singing your songs, when you are "family tipe" fan or "regular" fan and if ypu are not ultra style looking for trouble.
I read here many disgusting and untrue things about Split, Croatia, Hajduk, so I just wanted to tell you that things are not black or white always...
Split is beautiful town on adriatic coast, the whole region is full of tourists from whole world, we are not nazi lovers or racist or violence idiots...
I wish you all safe and nice trip to Split and lovely time here, but I (still) hope so that we can win ;-)

being serious , those that are going had really better be aware of what's going on around them, like I said was talking to one of there journalists after the game and she was more interested in the fans causing trouble than the game,
If that's what they are all like they will have there hoolies on alert to make a name for themselves.
stay safe get home in one piece.

So I have a mate who goes to Split every year from the states and has attended more than a few matches and he did say it's pretty mental. He's seen them chase opposing fans through the street, and he's seen armed guards escorting away fans to their seats. He also said don't draw attention to yourself and take the piss because some won't be in the mood for banter, they are looking for a fight. But it's also the high tourist season in Split, and it's not like there's not foreigners about.

My advice in any foreign country is learn some croatian words and phrases very quickly and use them.

I was just in Brazil, and while I never feared crime, it's always lurking. You have to be aware of your surroundings, remember you're not at home, and if you sense danger move on, don't question it or reason with it.

Call them what they are: cringey ultra rats. There's nothing tough about them. They're a bunch of bells who act dead mental when they outnumber any other group of people. Held back by a few dozen arl stewards at Goodison, picking off away fans going to their city to have a pleasant time. That's not hooligans, it's shithouses.

Shame as I'm sure they're minority amongst a sound fanbase but they've some bad edgy bells trying too hard to be Italian or English in the 80s and failing badly.
