Space and Stuff : It's Big

Saw one (meteor fall) tonight while on an evening walk...resembled the one above in Portugal but didn't last as long or was as bright as the videos above. Reported to the geeks over at the International Meteor Organization. Someone will be metal detecting by the weekend I imagine.

Rocks, innit.

A new planet which could potentially support human life discovered ;) They state that it would take 300,000 years to get there which is a bit of a drawback given you would be long dead before you arrived

I went to a course run by Keele Uni about 15 yrs ago on the subject of exoplanets (amongst other stuff). If you think some of the footy nerds here are ace, those lot are another breed entirely. Genuinely inspiring such is the depth of knowledge they had for all things space.
I asked the obvious halfwit question 'when will life outside of our solar system be confirmed?' the answer was very explicit... "If we haven't found it in the next 50 years, it doesn't exist" (or wtte) they are/were building their hopes on detecting ozone in the atmosphere of exoplanets as a basis for confirming life...

...or something similar
