South Africans

Random ramblings.

I started at a new school during the first gulf war. The first person to welcome me was an Iraqi, who everyone thought would kick off with me because I was an American. Nope, he ended up being my best friend through school (despite being a Utd fan).

We didn't let preconceived notions get int the way of a great friendship.

There are quite a few South African's here in NZ, and they have all been great (except one, who had some personal hygiene issues), but South African's in general don't have the best reputation here.

Which is completely mad as there are great and terrible members of every race and nationality.

Got a few around my area too, they're all really good sorts. Lots of them in the Wellington area, don't seem to get a bad rep, perhaps it's Aucklanders giving them a bad name

Never said I hated mandela. I'm just sceptical about whether we should blindly love a man with a very questionable past, whether his cause was justified or not. I'm indifferent to the guy.

And neil, personal experience shapes all of our views, and I've never said I 'hated' every single one of those people belonging to those groups. I've just had a few negative experiences. Think we all have with at least 2 of those you listed.

Well when you're oppressed, what else do you do?

But this is a bout those smelly Saffers. I worked with a South African guy once. They called it 'The Hot Seat' because he was a bit of a prick. I didn't mind him tbh, but he did tell me he might have left South Africa because he shot a Black Guy. Ex Copper. I'd believe it too.

Well, lets just say I hear derogatory comments made just on the basis of their accents.

But it is a horrible accent, you really can't imagine a South African whispering sweet nothings in someone's ear. In general I have found them to be a very likeable bunch of people though

1) we mostly are a really good bunch. In spite of a dogshow of a recent history it's a vibrant exciting place filled with great people.
2) we are the best sportspeople in the world relative to the financial investment put in. Easy.
3) Aussies are the most racist people in the world.
4) people are terrified of Die Antwoord. I love that. They're great.

I must admit when I was on the north shore I met some gooduns but the wowsers out numbered them by about 3:1... Those
ones tend to treat EVERYBODY like it was 1962 and you live in Seweto....no wonder they left / got turfed out.
