Player Valuation: £2.5m
Good article mate. The Wigan players that we're linked with would improve our squad imo and that's what it's all about- it's a squad game these days, especially if we're looking to win that elusive piece of silverware. Get Alcaraz on a free, get rid of Heitinga and his high wages. Get Kone relatively cheap for a proven Premier League striker (in the sense he's played 1 season and scored goals [I know about Jelavic...]), perhaps selling the latter for the right price or hoping that if kept, he can replicate his first season form.
I also wouldn't mind Dyer for the right price, since I rated him higher than Sinclair and thought he's done well whenever I've watched him play. Mccarthy too would be a good signing, although I'm not too sure whether his cost would be worth it, ultimately. I just think realism dictates that, for the most part, we're going to be looking to buy from clubs lower down in the pecking order rather than higher up, as much for the disparity in price and wages than anything.
Our squad core is ageing; and it needs padding out with new faces, since it's already amongst the smallest in the league. Every signing we make doesn't need to be an auto starter, just someone who can come in and perform at a decent-good level when required i.e Alcaraz. And with the hyped youngsters we have (Barkley, Duffy, Lundstram, even Garbutt, Mcaleny and Long) you'd hope that some of this could be done through youth promotion. Of course, in an ideal world, every signing made would be a blockbuster one, where we could dream of them winning the title by themselves but we are Everton so...
