Son's first game

Give it a go for a cup game, as you say you mightn't live too locally, but for the pair of you, you could probably go for about £20, where if you take him to a league game, you're talking maybe £22 just for him alone, which is just a little too extreme.

On a different note, good to see you blooding your son early mate. Top blue!

Took my son to his first proper game which was Tamworth fa cup. Think he was about 3 and a half. But before that I had taken him to a couple of reserve games to see how he was and so if he didn't enjoy it I wouldn't have missed out too much if I had to leave early.

I took one if my sisters once to her first game and she was about 20 years old. Home against Norwich and we won 2-0, think there was only about 20 odd thousand and she absolutely bricked it lol

All three petits Allezlesbleus taken before one year old!!! Nearly threw numero 3 out of the stand when Andy Hinchcliffe scored winner at QPR!!! Would not necessarily recommend that from the sprogs' point of view but I got to see games again quite soon after they were born. Got them used to it early on then they are sound when the big games come around. Starting with cup games is a good idea, Sunderland home FA cup 3rd round 1966 is the first one I remember although I had been to ressies before then.

I know all kids are different but I would wait until he is 5/6. They don't often have the attention span to last even a half. You don't want to put him off (also maybe see if we buy decent No.10 before taking him).

.....fortunately lived around the corner from Bellefield so my son and daughter were regulars watching Lancashire League games from a very young age. Those were ideal because you would get first teamers coming back from injury and a host of well known players watching. Watching youth teams is a good way to to get the kids involved.

After some advice

Want to take my son to the old lady but not sure if he is really old enough. He is currently 20 months old but is a confident walker. How old were your kids when you took them for the first time. Don't think Gwladys Street would be the right place though.

Think that towards the back end of the season, at about 2 1/2 he should be ok
My daughter was 2, but early for that much crushing disappointment, let him grow up without the agony man.

Brilliant! It is crushing disappointment as well. I fume on a Sat if we dont win and the wife gets well mad with me. Might try a Lincoln City game first as its close, non league to see how he handles it. If he isnt doing to well, I can leave and not feel guilty and hold it against him for weeks to come.

They tend to get bored around half time, then as they grow older then thank the Lord for half time and full time. I know I do. Bring plenty of snacks once he is able to get distracted enough. Try and sit in the top balcony, two reasons it's a bit less noisy, and won't scare him with the almighty roar of a goal, and the height will either scare him or amaze him.

Midweek cup game mate. My first game was a ressie game against Liverpool when I was two. League Cup would be alright. Go Upper Bullens or something where the view is good but it isn't too rowdy.

probably best wait till there a bit older, or they just tend to get bored, fidget and then you can't even watch the game your self mate.

Wait until the attention span is a little better and you should be sound / try cup games first.
