Some rare footage of Royston Vernon.........

I've just come across this thread Steve, and yes, I remember Tommy Ring very well. We won three matches 6-1 at Goodison in 1959/60,
the season he came. His first game, I think, was a 6-1 against Notts Forest, but I especially remember - the occasion, not the detail - of the
6-1 against Chelsea when he scored two.
I suppose you could compare his time here to Kanchelskis'. He wasn't here long, but what an impact he had.
I'm only up to page 3, and it's probably been said already, but to the poster who thought he came from Falkirk, no, that was the great Alex Parker, Tommy came from Clyde.
Geez, the Scots had some great footballers then.

Scotland did indeed produce some wonderful footballers, makes you wonder what went wrong.......

The mention of Tommy Ring had me thinking back, we have had in my view three world class left wingers, Tommy Ring, Dave Thomas and Derek Temple.

I was walking up Goodison Rd near the church on my way to the boy's pen one day, and Wally Fielding and Bobby Collins were coming the other way. Bobby was my hero and I nervously said something to him as I got near them. I don't remember what I said but it was something an
awestruck 13 year old would say. Bobby smiled but Wally told me to 'f... off'. I was absolutely shocked at the time and Bobby looked uncomfortable, too, but I can see the funny side of it now.
I've told this story on Bluekipper, I think, so apologies to old Blues who've heard it before.
Everton played at Leeds Unt. the year we came up,after the game we saw the Everton coach outside an hotel,Dave
Hickson was on the coach on his own , we got on to talk to him, while we were talking Wally Fielding got on, and told us to
f--k off, so he must have always been like that.

Sounds like Wall Fielding was a first class pratt.

He was a cockney spiv. Very good player, though.
