Very true. Was reading a bit about it early by Brian Cox. Can't let the kids miss out to be honest.

It's not a total eclipse, it's a large partial eclipse everywhere except Svalbard/Faroe Islands apparently. Might be wrong though as only just looked it up.

Worth watching anyway, and the effect is pretty much the same.

Our staff will be in the city centre on Wednesday and Thursday, then giving the glasses away again near the big screen on Friday morning from 8.30am.

Once the eclipse happens – or when we run out – we’ll start handing out free water and baked beans.

That said, agree with you. Just make sure to stress to them all that they'll be dead, their parents will be dead and everything they ever knew and loved will be dead by the next time one happens.

Also, can someone please read that article Reidy linked to and confirm to me the paper, for some reason, is giving out baked beans if they run out of glasses? And also tell me the logic behind such an action?

I feel like I've gone mad reading that.
