Reidy's Bottle Of Grecian

The Unobstructed View
Got called out earlier to a job (which took minutes to complete tbh) and it's an Old Gentleman, I choose that description as anything else wouldn't be fair on the chap, in his late 80's and full of chat.

Job's done and he says, "come with me, there's something I'd like to show you that I don't usually show to people... but I like you... in my cellar.

Now as I say he was late 80's but if he's got a vintage glok in the pocket of his tweed jacket then it doesn't matter how old he is really, BUT down to the depths we went. We get down there and he's got to about his mid-teens in his life story, very much going off on tangents all over the shop, a bit like the Old Guy on The Fast Show with bit's of Latin, Italian & French thrown in for good measure.
We get to a point in his life where he tells me he had a wine shop and would travel to Southern France just to acquire a bottle.... a single bottle as there were in 1 instance only 2 produced. So he's a bit of a Vino Collector me thinks.

Anyway, his cellar is chocka with wooden crates of Vino with the years on them Châteauneuf-du-Pape
being 1 I instantly recognise, and he starts looking around grabs a bottle and says "Is That 96?" so I squint at it and say, "No, it's 1999 the year that my daughter was born." "Really, in which case I must give you this and you must put it aside to toast a joyous occasion in the future, like when she gets married or something, IT IS a very Special bottle and also Vintage so put it somewhere that it won't get spoiled, a nice cool place, if you look for it on the internet you won't find it, not THAT year."
Hmmm, sounds like a decent 'tip' from the arl fella.

Then he proceeds to dig around and finally finds another bottle that he says is, "For you and Your Wife to enjoy."

Now, I was down there in the cellar for about an hour, and missed the 1st 50 minutes of our friendly BUT he was right, I can't find 1 of them for sale online, in fact some wine community only had 18 bottles listed as owned by its members and 11 of those have been supped, not for sale anywhere either.
As I say.... Not a Bad Tip !!

the Vino was this one, about £19 a bottle

No idea about the wine Reidy mate, go by price me, but what a nice bloke! Must have been made up you sorted his lock out, if thats what you still do!

The Champagne is listed as 'not available to purchase' on every site I've looked on, him saying what he said has made me look tbh, and as I say some wine forum where they all list whats in their cellar said 18 bottles 11 of which have been drank.

He was a nice fella tbh and I did feel bad trying to get away, I did only bill him for the hour like and was there about 1 1/2:P

The way the story started out it sounded like the ep of Father Ted when he gets taken down to a cellar by a Nazi. Glad you got out of there alive :)

Its prob filled with his piss and he sitting in his arm chair laughing his cock off

Sounds amazing. Though I'm a sucker for any oldman story.

I might be childish but whenever someone mentions Chateauneuf-du-Pape I can't help but laugh. I can't help it. Sounds like a decent tipple, though I've no idea to be honest.

Always meant to ask Reids, been to the Chat Moss recently?

He told me that it gets it's name because the pope used to travel to there to get his tipple 'New House of the Pope' which was much to the disgust of the Italians.
As for Chat Moss, feck that, I've heard of a few beatings taking place on there.
