Given the vastness of the Universe it seems possible but the amount of exact requirements for carbon based life to exist it's also possible that the same conditions don't occur anywhere else.

Interesting topic! If the question is geared just towards life of any type, including especially simple organisms, my guess is that life is everywhere just based on probability given how many bodies there are in the known universe and what are fairly limited requirements for the right circumstances for said life to gain a foothold. If we are talking about two different sentient life forms actually finding out about each other's existence in a contemporaneous circumstance such that they could actually interact with each other, even if only via communication, I would guess the chances are practically zero given the immense distances of space/time.

Agree generally there mate! What do you think about about the possibility of non-carbon based life? I know some scientists believe that it is theoretically possible to have life cycles based on silicates instead of carbon.

Yeah. With silicon being the same family as carbon but less stable when bonded there'd probably have to be very different conditions to what we can survive in. Maybe those conditions could lead to basic lifeforms but not something as complex as ourselves.
I really like the idea of other life in the universe, be interesting to see what evolution could do starting from scratch somewhere else.
