Snow

Do people live on those house boats all year round Sue ?

I`ve always wondered what they do in the Winter.
We light a fire, or put the heating on. Just like in a house.

Amazed how many times I got asked this - and never tired of the look on people's faces as they absorbed the answer!

There is nothing like "boat cold" though, if you return after a few days away. Nothing. *shudders

It`s just the fact that there`s so little space.

You`d have to have a pretty strong relationship to survive close quarter confinement like that

Yes a lot do. There is a Wharf here which has facilities on and a very small "social club". Some move about every couple of weeks as think they don't have to pay a mooring charge then. Those that are here all the time pay about £250 a month last time I asked.

You're not wrong. I sold my Dutch barge just before covid (doh!) - loads if space, just like a small house. A few years ago we got a narrowboat for the missus to live in during the week, while away at work. Horribly cramped. I didnt like it even when it was only me on board (moving it from Teddington to Stratford upon Avon over the winter) ... like living in a corridor. Happy to sell that after she was made redundant .... though I do miss having the house to myself innthe week!!

As others have said, it all depends, yet many do.

It's typically single individuals or couples, who like to move around in the warmer months of the year and may only moor up for a few months in the winter.

If you aren't moored up, the generating of electricity in the winter can be a nightmare.
