Anyone ever had this?

Some scumbag has keyed my girlfriends mums car, which she happens to be driving for the next few weeks. It doesn't look much to be honest, just stands out loads on a black car. She was pretty devastated over it, first day shes insured on it while her mum is away and some toe rag keys it.

But anyway, was quoted £300 to £400 from a Halfords advisor for a respray - then went to a garage and was told either £80 for a smart repair and if not happy, £220 for a respray...

But a 'smart repair?', never heard of it.... Is it worth risking the £80?

Phone chips away first mate. Or a mobile paint repair for a quote. They will undercut any quote you have written on paper.
There was some chemical one a while ago I saw and was amazed at but can't remember the name.

Tbh if they quote 80 for the magic repair, then 220 for the full respray if it sucks. you have nothing to lose if the halfords respray was 300 anyway.

yup. .

Where are you based mate? I know a fella who's done a great repair job on the cars of 2 colleagues of mine & he's really well priced & the repair jobs themselves are spot on. Want his number?

I would say a smart repair would mean they would either touch it up with a touch up which would look shocking or they would sand down offending area, prime it up and then spray it, which would look ok, but would metalic paints are silly to match so would possibly stand out like a sore thumb.
