If you take the very early flights on Ryanair (6:30 AM and 7:45 AM) you can go from Liverpool to Dublin on 8 August and come back on August 9 for a total of £24 (incl. taxes + charges). Though you'd probably need to get the more expensive afternoon flight back to be able get back from Sligo in time.

You can get from Dublin Airport into Dublin City very cheaply on the bus. Then you can either get a train or a bus to Sligo for around €25 (return).

Another option if there's a load of yis would be to rent a car at Dublin Airport and drive to Sligo. It'd be cheaper if there's a couple of ye piling into a fiesta. And you'd be able to take the cheaper ryanair flight on the 9th. (About €80 for August 8th-9th for a Ka/Fiesta)

I'm sure you could find a cheap hotel in Sligo no problem.

All in all, very doable.

Yes, drive across the border.

All joking aside the shortest journey would be to fly into Derry and hire a car, take you about 2hrs. Journey times from Belfast & Dublin are about the same. You will need an overnight stay but this gives you at 3 options.

Knock is the nearest airport to fly into direct and you can usually pick up a cheap enough flight with Ryanair. Knock is about 40mins drive from Sligo. If you fly into Dublin, you can fly to Sligo with Aer Arann if times suit.
