Sky's The Limit For Jack – News Archive – News – evertonfc.com – The Official Website of Everton Football Club
The 'sky is the limit' for Jack Rodwell.
That's the view of Tim Howard, the American goalkeeper who has been greatly impressed by the development of his 18-year-old teammate this term.
Rodwell has become a regular first team squad member, and despite his tender years, has turned in some mature performances in the centre of midfield. This season he has scored his first senior goal, played in an FA Cup semi-final and made his debut for England Under-21s.
Now Howard is tipping him for the top.
"The sky is the limit for him," the keeper told evertonTV. "Jack is a great player. He has all the tools to become a top level player, professionally and internationally.
"It's up to him now that he keeps his mind right does all the right things and continues to get better."
Howard is certain that Rodwell is at the right Club to help him prosper at the very highest level.
"If he continues the ascent he is on now, in five or six years he will be a big time player," he said.
"I think he knows he is in the right place. All the people around him, myself, the coaches, the senior players need to remind him.
"People get tempted by different things but this is a great Club for him to be at to develop. If he wants to be successful, he can do it here."
Those sentiments were echoed by Everton's assistant manager Steve Round, though he was also keen to avoid too much hysteria over the player's bright future.
"We need to put into context how well he is doing," said Round. "He is only in his second year out of school.
"He came into the team at the start of the season when we didn't have too many options and it was a case of ‘needs must'; he was thrown into the big wide world of the Premier League.
"Over the course of the year, as he has got physically stronger and mentally matured, you can see he is starting to stamp his own authority on games and his qualities are coming through.
"I think we have got a very talented player in our ranks and he could go on to become something rather special; you saw that in the second half against Tottenham."
