Sir Landon Of Donovan

he's too professional to do a lescott but i can see him coming back on a permanent with no hesitation if we get the cash to buy him. I honestly believe he's a loyal player and would come back to us after we believed in him and treated him as our own, can't see him picking another team over us. My fear is the money won't be available and he'll be forced elsewhere in the prem

I don't see him going elsewhere...it's Everton or LA. He's had crap experiences at other clubs and I don't think he'll risk it again. He's proven to himself he can play at this level and it might be enough that he won't risk being miserable.

I think some long-time Evertonians are underestimating themselves and their effect on LD...... it's Everton (players, fans, staff, coaches/manager) he loves, not the Prem

In a written vote, more than 350 players supported a strike and only two opposed it, a source close to the situation said.
Epic FAIL. That means there are 350 players that apparently are well-enough off financially to not work for a year. Bigger picture here, guys, bigger picture. (and it's NOT greater "transparency" with owners finances).

I'm with the players on only two things: guaranteed contracts & free agency. We know free agency cannot happen without huge legal repurcussions to the MLS, so obviously the MLS won't cave there.

None of this is strike-worthy though. Pathetic. (n)

I'm one soccer fan that definitely does not take the players' sides here, at least with the decision to strike.

No harm, I actually thought it was funny and was pleased that you thought that my posts were well thought out.

I own a youth soccer web site that is really popular in Florida, Massachuetts, and somewhat in other states. I think that some Florida posters know that I am a woman, but the posters in Mass, I believe, have no clue, and think that I am a man. They, if they reference a post that I made, refer to me as a him, and have even asked for my opinion on some of the finer points of the game. I correctly let those go and only post about what I think I know, not what I do not know.
Well you're definitely a pioneer then. Good posts, I enjoy reading them.

Cheers

I also think his divorce plays big in this situation compared to previous years

No matter how much family means to you, it's one thing to be away from parents/siblings and entirely another to be away from your significant other

My ex-wife lives in Miami. Now I try to live as far away as possible.

Just sayin'

If these salaries are an average, then they do not exactly tell one the entire story. Beckham makes millions playing for the Galaxy while LD is second with $900,000. and then the drop off. You can see how Beckham and other foreign players can pull the whole "salary average" out of perspective.

If LD has to go back and there is a strike that is lengthy, then Arena is an ass. The USMNT has already been hit with a calamity of injuries, and with a strike, and their best field player, what scouting adult leagues for games.............maybe over the top, but @#$%^& What does it do to the players that are on the USMNT that play im the MLS?

What do you think of this news? Think MLS will start to budge? Still don't believe the player's will strike?

Is it fair NHL Players make 15X More than MLS Average?
Is it fair NHL Salary Cap $57 Million vs MLS $2.3 Million?
Is it fair NHL Salary Cap 25X Higher than MLS Cap?

AVERAGE PLAYER SALARIES
NBA: $4,900,000
MLB: $2,866,544
NHL: $1,460,000 (used to be $1,830,000)
NFL: $1,250,000
EPL: $1,162,720
MLS*: $90,000????
AFL: $85,000
WNBA: $55,000

LEAGUE SALARY CAPS:
MLB No Cap - Highest Team Payroll- Yankees $208 Million
NFL No Cap - Highest Team Payroll- Raiders $152 Million
NBA $60 Million
NHL $57 Million
MLS $2.3 Million

COMMISSIONER SALARIES
Bud Selig MLB $14.5 million
Roger Goodell NFL $10.3 million
Gary Bettman NHL $5.9 million
Don Garber MLS $3 Million

NFL national TV package rights: $3.085 Billion/year
MLB national TV Package: $416m/year
NBA national TV package: $400m/year
NHL US National TV package: $75m/year
MLS national TV package: $1.5m/year.
You know, all that tells me is that the MLS is still an infant league, and thus will not have all the privileges and benefits the other leagues will have. The MLS doesn't have the fanbase here, doesn't have the fan spending on merchandise, nor the TV contracts.... so why would they expect more? Let's be realistic, here.

There's a bigger picture at play, the future of soccer in this country. A strike would set our league back quite a bit. I understand the players want more, but take a little at a time; they're asking for too much at once. I'm almost to the point I hope they DO strike, every team hires scabs to play, and the original players are just stuck without paychecks. I don't feel any validity to their concerns, worthy of striking.

Jesus, have unions ever been good?

100% agreed. He appreciates the chemistry more than the name of the league I'm sure. (y)

I am not a follower of baseball in the states, but in 1994, the MLB players had a strike, from which they, I do not think, have ever really recovered. That was supposed to be the USA's national pastime. (Actually American football or basketball is now)..AND why? Why did baseball fall, especially in the youth leagues?......Well, the strike had a lot to do with it. People found other sports outlets and for a while baseball was forgotten. What this would do, if lengthy, is horrible for US soccer. Yes, the players have some real gripes, BUT, is a strike going to solve them. It set baseball back and it was on top, or close to it before the strike.

Thats why he's popular here.

Too many "English" players are all about money and so-called "exposure"

Chelsea are full of them as are the RS. Beckham's like that too and it can be annoying. Rooney tries to portray himself the opposite to this - but its precisely what he is all about via his agent.

Donovan's an honest professional.

That's as much made sure he's has an instant rapport with the Everton support. (Rapport is one of the most important features or characteristics of unconscious human interaction. It is commonality of perspective: being "in sync" with, or being "on the same wavelength" as the person with whom you are talking)

Then all he had to do was show us what he could do. That was nearly all positive, and he played for the team and mixed in well with the team due to his attitude. Respected the history and the fans, so he was respected back, given the 9 shirt - an honour which cannot be stated - and even when he missed at Spurs, his work for the team outweighed this so no one jumped on him

So he was always going to do well at Everton. He was one of the boys from day one.

we've been getting told $90,000 by everyone, thats what we've found very hard to believe.
so if you sare saying $900,000 then thats about £600,000, he'd earn more with us but it's not like he'll be on chelsea type wages of £100,000 per week.

I am right. Positively. BUT, LD is not a money hunter. He is a home hunter, and when he stays, he earns much more, staying in the EPL, and more in the states in ads. He has no "Posh" wife, just a couple of dogs. And I do not mean that in terms of women.

He also has a refrigerator full of Coronas. Do they have Coronas in Liverpool? That might be a problem.

Anyway, I agree. Money shouldn't be a problem. I don't think he is looking for more money, he's just looking for a place where his hard work is rewarded by results on the field. He can run all day in 110 degree weather in a game out here, but what does it matter if no one else can match the skill and the effort? It must be frustrating. I think he is appreciating being on a team where he isn't the best player, but where he plays better because of that fact.

This.

In a nutshell. This.
