Sir Landon Of Donovan

Everywhere is right TX Bill, and it's not looking to get any better:
8/1 Chicago Fire match
8/4 Rematch vs Puerto Rico Islanders - not likely to sit since the Galaxy I'm sure want redemption
8/7 Friendly vs Real Madrid - gotta trot the boy out for this, but I hope Arena doesn't play him the entire time
8/10 USMNT Friendly vs Brazil - he's playing. Period. Which he validated in the Reuters article.
8/14 NY Red Bulls vs. Galaxy - Henry/Angel(/Marquez?) vs. Donovan/Buddle. He's playing.

Hope his legs don't fall off.

Don't forget all the media appearances in NY he had.

Bill did you go to the match in Houston?

I have this bad feeling about the MLS and City's moneybags just a real bad feeling for Lando.

Yes I did and it was a lot of fun. Landon won't go to City. He just won't.

Maybe...maybe not.

Everton seemed pretty skint in 2008 before 15 million popped up for Fellaini.

If he moves, can't see him going anywhere else. He's not going to Serie A (see prior spells in foreign language countries - Germany) or to another Premier League side. He knows he'll be an integral player at Everton rather than a squad player at Shitteh. The other club that might make a play that hasn't been discussed really is Fulham - good history with American players, think Donovan would like playing with Dempsey, Hughes will have transfer cash available and Donovan would probably step into the CM role rather than the RM role he'd hold at Everton.

Still want to be as optimistic as possible about this...love that the tone seems to be changing on the US/MLS side.

We do it just about every year.

"I would love to go back to Everton -- I love the people there, I love the fans there," he told reporters after Wednesday's MLS All Star game against Manchester United, which ended in a 5-2 win for the English club.

Didn't see this quote but it's probably accurate. He's been on record as saying that he had a great experience here not just playing, but at Goodison, with the supporters, etc.... He was chosen.

Good stuff Chico.

I will say that MLS will NOT suffer as a result of his departure. Most MLS supporters, and I'd guess a fair majority of Galaxy supporters, want to see him move to Europe. It would be great for him and great for US Soccer as a whole.

The commentators even said that during the game. They want him to move to the EPL

Everyone except Garber and maybe Arena wants Landon to come back to Everton.

The problem I have with judging his value, is that he's dependent on pace. He's not young; he's in his prime, so how long will he have those quick little legs for? Hmm...

First off, as an admitted biased yank who would love to see LD come on a permanent, let me attempt to qualify following statements by saying that I've actually COOLED on him a bit since the WC. I know everybody else (especially over here) has gone the opposite direction, interpreting his play as "breakthrough", spectacular, heroic, & proof that his stock has & should be dramatically raised. Not me. I thought he was great in moments, overall not bad by any stretch, but there were times & little hints that, for me, make me think his ego & some old demons may not be as excorcised as we'd like to believe. Nothing huge, just little things here & there. I don't like how quickly & frequently he referred to "his performance, his play he was proud of, etc., during interviews...WHILE STILL IN THE CUP! Sorry but the appropriate response was to talk about the team & the task at hand ONLY. Period. Do you think Michael Bradley had anything in his mind other than winning the next game? Absolutely not. And the whole blowing his ex-wife kisses then staying up all night w/ her on the phone that night when he should've been resting/preparing/focusing on the Ghana game. There was already less time to prepare between games than needed, not to mention the additional toll our come from behind matches were taking. I thought he was average at best against Ghana. But what bothered me most was how poor his first touch was at various random moments throughout that game. Landon has been known to do many things to disappoint (often due to probably unfair expectatons on him) but first touch was new to me. As a country that's one area in particular where we're still lightyears behind, & landon has been one of the few exceptions to that. Except, of course, in arguably the biggest game in the history of the sport in our country. But all that said...

While I understand the concerns over potential decreasing pace, I wouldn't be so quick to write him off completely even in the event he loses a step or 2. One thing people forget is how many different positions he's played throughout his career. For example, he was brought to Bayern to be a pure striker. I watched every game, & I can say w/ confidence that he was nowhere near as bad as some would like you to bellieve. He had limited minutes, but looked every bit the part of scoring as klose, toni, podolski, etc. He then came home & immediately proceeded to lead league in scoring as pure striker, despite missing so much time on international duty. Fast forward to Everton, where Moyes needed him as out & out winger. He played well in clearly defined role, then came back & is now leading the league in assists.

My point is I believe he's capable of succeeding in many different roles, many of which do not rely on pace to extent winger does. And he's proven he has ability to adapt as needed. Quickly, effectively, and in MANY different roles & positions.

Sorry for the ramble, that's my take!

Was watching the Daily Show and heard John Stewart mention Everton during his interview with Donovan. Made my night :)

12 mill US Dollars would currently be just under 7.7 million pounds. So anything at 8 million pounds and above would get him..... just checked the current exchange rate.

Saw that too. Love Stewart & Daily Show. Splurged for tickets to see him live when he was down here in Miami couple years ago. Tix weren't cheap, but worth every penny.

And Colbert is out of his mind. In a good way. Absolutely love him.

Where are you, overe here in states or UK? Just wondering if they get broadcast it over there.

Love em both to death, but I enjoy Stewart more due to the fact that he is his own witty self on air as opposed to a purposefully inflamatory character. I'm in the states but I'm fairly sure I've watched both programs in the UK. Viacom owns a ****load of networks I'm sure of them reach across the pond ;)

This whole deal is like watching two teenagers who are both hot for each other but can't seem to get fully in each other's pants because dad keeps lurking about. Lots of open mouth breathing and flirty touches but nothing to show for it.

I hate teasing.
