Today , saw an end to the finest English Cricketer of the last 20 years .
Andrew " Freddie " Flintoff , was finally forced to submit to the injuries sustained whilst putting tweleve times his body weight - 16 Stone , through his knees and ankles , every ball he bowled - primarily for his Country , but also his beloved Lancashire . And he bowled A LOT.
A supremely talented individual , there was a time there 04/05 , where he was as good as anything around . Could bat , well , bowled like the Goddamned wind , whilst swinging it late both ways at 90mph , an' with a Yorker to DIE FOR . He also caught Pigeons in the slips . An' , LOVED giving it to the Swag Bagger's , too - though in fairness , took a hiding , then came back , on one leg , an' still showed 'em who was Guv'nor . Even Warney loved him . An' Binga .
If any one you have ever witnessed this man play for England , I challenge you to compare him with our more high profile Footy players . Fred pisses all over them for sheer committment an' actually wanting to be there .
He weren't perfect . No way . Liked a bevvy , an' a cigar . Liked a few . But it was a ,
" With the lads " , attitude , and was juvenile at worst . Not cynical , media minipulation an' NOT carrying on with his mate's bird .
I am of course , biased . I have Fred's Shirt on my living room wall . Also a signed Ashes Poster from Edgbaston '05 . I LOVE Freddie , me , but for those of you whom do not , or are impartial , he was a GEEZER , and we are unlikely to see his like again .
So , Andrew Flintoff , O.B.E. , may your retirement be long and not too uncomfortable .
You ROCK , Sir .
Classic Fred-ism ; " ... Watch the windows , Tino ,.." Legend , btw .
Not bad , for a fat lad .
Super Freddie Flintoff . Sup-er , Super Fred' ,...
