Erm for what:lol::lol::lol::lol:I have a cousin whos wife hails from there and I have been to family functions up there :lol:

It's class! Go see the castle and cathedral, walk up steep hill, do some shopping, go watch the Imps play, sample the quality night life.

What more could one possibly want from a short break?! (y)

Some of the forest areas of the Lake Ditrict are superb around the end of October with the autumnal colours at their showy best. Even if you do hit half term week, it's still a lot quieter than in the summer months.
There are some great pubs serving decent real ale too if you're into that sort of thing.

Also, the Peak District, on a much smaller scale of course but again, if you're into pleasant walks, a great meal in front of a roaring log fire (with a decent pint), then either of those places should fit the bill.

If you want a city break though York is an option. Harrogate area is lovely too with the added bonus of the Theakston brewery in the vicinity.
As you can see, I really like beer and most of my holidays are taken in areas that serve good beer or in summer some stonking cider!
