Shirt Numbers

We're signing Messi in the summer and we're giving him the shirt number 2.

Somehow, that scenario would make me cry real human tears

The fact that we'd signed Messi would probably make me feel alright about him wearing 2.

To be frank. Not sure which frank. But not Lampard.

I don't care all that much myself, tbh.

If it was up to me there wouldn't be numbers on shirts anymore. The game's outgrown them.

That's an interesting point. Is there any point in them at all?

Beckham has got his 32 down for marketing now. No other reason.

I couldn't bring myself to wear a Messi (or any make believe striker signing) number '2' shirt.

I'd be overjoyed to sign anyone this summer, but there's something about a player having the 'right' number that I buy into. I self rage if my iTunes account isn't perfect for such things as 1) no album artwork or 2) the song title just says track 4. I know, I have issues

BLS where are you , you'd feel my pain

What matters I feel is a club's sense of tradition I feel.
I don't care what the international norm is, but if at Everton the talismanic striker wears 9, I like the idea of that number being passed on from player to player who exhibits those characteristics.
If somehow the number 20 became significant for a certain type of player, I would like a player who comes into Everton and plays in that way to feel honoured to be offered that shirt, and to carry the burden and prestige..

The sport today is very much a squad game. I have no problem with squad numbers but need to not be stupid.

I also think that your centre forward should have 9, your first choice goal keeper 1, your right and left back 2 and 3. Gallas wearing number 10 annoyed me, Dempsey 2 is stupid.

Totally understand people having an issue with it. It is weird I guess. Just doesnt bother me

But then people won't understand why is stayed up all night watching a rather poor wrestling event!

Totally different sport but I even find it terribly irritating how players in the IPL cricket have 3-digit numbers on their back
why?!?!
How can any number that high possibly mean that much to a player???

I have to confess that I spend quite a while on football manager getting the squad numbers just right, I wonder when the last team actually fielded a 1-11 with squad numbers?, personally I would like the 9 and 10 shirts filled this summer.

2 4 5 3

7 8 6 11

9 10

Anything else can [Poor language removed] off.

I realise that as a resident of a country who have been in a slow footballing decline since 1876 you naturally hark back to the past, but it's just pointless nostalgia.

Besides only one everton cup winning team has ever lined up like that. Out of 5.

No arsed, I like pointless nostslgia.

Squad numbers were invented to make more money out of punters, that's the single reason they came about.
