Toon ’n Toffees have Long shot

NEWCASTLE and Everton are on alert after Reading chief Brian McDermott admitted Shane Long could be sold in the next month.

McDermott is anxious to keep Republic of Ireland hitman Long, 24. But he said: "He's the best striker in the Championship.

"I said to him in January that if we didn't go up, I'd do my best to find him a Premier League club."

We have no money.

There. Thought I'd just get that in first.

Apart from that, if he cost around £5m, great. The fact he'd cost nearly double that rules him out for me.

Liverpool are also interested in Long, having sent scouts to watch the Republic of Ireland international score twice during Reading's friendly against Northampton last weekend.

Just sayin.

Would be a difficult step up for the lad IMO, especially with us as we would expect straight away. The only thingi would say similarly to Bellamy he has pace to burn, could play in the inside forward role.
