Shane Long

I dunno lads, he was a bit crap up until last season, but last season he did look properly good a lot of the time. Had a few gash games ofc (he was pants in the second leg of their playoff game against Swansea, for example) but overall had a pretty ace season.

25 goals from 50 apps in all competitions last year, plus player of the year award. He may well flop, but I wouldn't write him off just yet. He's also still only 24.

And yes, I've seen him play plenty. I've lived in Reading for most of the last 20-odd years. So there.

Do you go to all the Reading games mate? TRAITOR.

never really rated him before this season and whenever I did watch him he didn't look prem quality despite scoring goals aplenty, remember Ebank-blake and Chopra.

Agree, I've seen him play a good bit for Ireland as well.
But we're grand aren't we because we've already got a 25 goals a season striker in our team. Let me see, his name escapes me somehow...

We've got players who have scored 25 goals in the lower leagues if that's your definition of "a 25 goals a season striker".

It ain't mine.

Funny how players are deemed 'crap' as soon as it becomes obvious that they are not coming to us. He may not be to your taste and that is fair enough, but 'crap' he certainly isn't.

Your suggesting it's sour grapes?

Shane Long.

Hmmm.

Who has he signed for mate? West Brom, West Ham?

Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not suggesting that he's the next big thing, or even that he'll make the step up. But he might.

Also, at 24 signing for a premiership outfit like WBA have now become from a champo outfit is still a good move. Most players still take some time climbing the ladder to the top; its only a tiny percentage still that make it in the big leagues whilst still a youngster.

A good season for the Baggies, and who knows where he'll end up?

P.S. I'm glad we didn't sign him for 6m though. I'd have taken a punt on him for a more reasonable fee, and I suspect Moyles may have as well.

What have West Brom got to do with it ? Are you saying he has found his level there, implying that he is not good enough for us ? I doubt if I need to remind you which position in the team needs strenghtening the most and that we haven't got the dosh to afford a real top class proven striker.

A player who could score 25 goals for us in the league we play in?

I mean we have three strikers, Beckford, Saha and Yakubu, who have scored 25 goals in a season, in any league. Want to take bets of any of them doing it next year in the prem?

No, because they won't do it and nor will Shane Long.

Of course he won't score 25 goals in the PL. But might get about 15 which would be a lot better than any of our attack at the moment. If Beckford becomes that man then great, because there is no-one else who will play enough games to do it.
