Certainly has a lot better chance of having a successful career with Ireland than he has with Everton.

We are blessed with some truly awful centre halves at the moment.

Just seeing result now - at least Shane will not be tainted with the blame for any of that!

In fairness, it was a tired 3rd or even 4th choice first XI who are long overdue their summer break while Portugal were at full strength and coming to peak in time for the WC.

Shane had a calf strain I believe.

The game should never have been played. Most of the better players(including McCarthy and Coleman) are resting after a long hard season.
The squad is made up of young players, players that will never be good enough and McGeady who is using these games as a training exercise.

It was played because New Jersey and the surrounding area has lots of ex-pats around, so they felt it would be worth cashing in

It's what we should be doing. Why we haven't arranged a pre-season tour of Ireland is baffling. We've got 5 full Irish internationals in the side. The money we'd make on shirt sales alone would be worth it

Except we can't buy Everton shirts in Ireland because of that stupid kitbag deal!!!

Absolutely agree about an Irish tour though. By beginning of August, the League of Ireland will be over half way through the season, and Everton could get good preparatory games against e.g. Shamrock Rovers, Cork, Dundalk, St Pat's and of course Sligo.

Easy to get to for Scousers and loads of great pubs !!

It has to be done I feel or we're really going to regret it

Some think that Ireland is lost to the Man United, Celtic and Liverpool fans, but I disagree. Everton can really make gains there. It's a club with Irish heritage that also has a number of Irish players in the team.

There hasn't been as good a time to crack Ireland since the days of Sheedy

I was looking up friendly fixtures and found that Everton played Rovers in Dublin in each of 1960/61, 66/67, 67/68, 68/69, 69/70 (my first sight of the Blues as a 5 year old at Milltown - smitten ever since!!), 70/71 (I was at that too - Dalymount) and 71/2. Since then Everton have only played Rovers once - in 90/91 at the RDS.

Long overdue!!

If it is good enough for Real Madrid..........

Wow

Such a shame that we stopped doing that

We really have surrendered Ireland to the other clubs I feel

We played Bray Wanderers about 2003/04 ish Scot Gemmill was about the highest profile player that came over tough. Dont even think Moyes came over.

I was at that too. Found this report

http://toffeeweb.com/season/03-04/reports/Bray(f).asp

We also played Cork in about 1990 and I met some Kildare Blues on the way down in the Three Counties pub in Kilbehenny. We chatted about there being no ESC for non-Dublin based Blues.

Subsequently these lads were instrumental in setting up the Irish Toffees ESC with the late great Jimmy Kearney RIP.

McFadden scored a cracker if I remember correctly - wasnt aware Jimmy Kearney passed away RIP, got most of my tickets 3rd party via Jimmy back in the day.

24 April 2007 - sudden heart attack. Unbelievably, Alan Ball died the next day !!!

I got to Jimmy's funeral in Celbridge. Loads of old Dublin ESC lads there as well as the Irish Toffees.

We were in the Dublin ESC in the 80s - used to meet in the Auld Dubliner Fleet St before it became trendified!! Like me, he moved down the sticks after marriage.

Athlone Town late 80s.

Had pints with Colin Harvey and the squad in the official reception in the clubhouse. Left the clubhouse at 03.00 unable to walk without assistance!!!

Pat Nevin the soundest by far.

Magggggic!!!!!!!
