Shane Duffy

...good to hear, but suspect he's way down the pecking order these days. He must be behind Stones and Alcaraz, so you have to think it would take a really bad run of injuries to see back here any time soon.

We will need to start thinking about phasing our key CD's out soon though Eggs

Sure he is a decent enough defender, but we need a bit more than that. I see him as being a Shawcross style defender (not as dirty obviously) who is superb in the air, but not so good with the ball at his feet.

Good defender, good in the air, strong. Only thing he lacks is a bit of pace... and for us his passing needs to improve if he'll make it here. Good lad though.

I didn't think his passing was any worse than Jags. He doesn't seem to panic on the ball anyway. He does lack pace though, unlike Distin. If there was a ball over the top and a race on I wouldn't fancy Shane much.

Not sure on shane yet hes absolutely Dominating in the Air with careful coaching and a sweeper John stones maybe? he could be an excellent centre back

Who knows how much Shane will have developed by the end of the season. He could very force his way past Alcaraz, Heitinga, and maybe Stones in pre-season. He's playing more games than all them and he's playing well in a poor team. We knew what he could do in the premier league from a couple years ago and I think its safe to say he's probably gotten a lot better since then.

If Duffy was going to get past Stones in the pecking order it would be the latter on loan to Yeovil instead. Duffy is going to struggle big time to make it at Everton, and he certainly won't do it ahead of John Stones.

...agree, particularly have to think Distin can't keep this level up for much longer. Heitinga is virtually out of the equation, but I'm really hopeful that Alcaraz will be mid-term cover. My Wigan source tells me this lad is the real deal. Also, we know RM tried to sign Stones for Wigan and he really looks the part. I have a feeling that Duffy is not thought good enough. Current priority lies elsewhere as we ok at CB for a window or two.
