Phone them up, mate. Give them a sob story and pray they do you a favour and waive the handling charge (there will be one).
Sorry, but that's balderdash. Have a look at this link: WikilawForCompleteNovices.com It clearly states that not only will handling charges be retained by the club, but also the first born child of your family will be taken and sold on ebay. Its the law.
