2023/24 Sean Dyche

When Dyche won the league with Burnley, they still played dour percentage football. They were 12th for possession that season.

Now it was effective, and that’s fine. But let’s not pretend he’d be playing free flowing football if he had some of the better footballers in the division. He hasn’t and wouldn’t.

Laughing.

They won the league with 93 points, no team scored more than them but "pffft, 12th for possession" - whether that's true or not, I don't know. But c'mon, behave.

He joined Burnley in October or when they were in the Championship sat 14th. He got them promoted that same season/immediately - in 2nd place too. They went right back down as favourites to do so. He got them promoted again as and kept them up against the odds for a very long time and even had a season in Europe despite not having a pot to piss in - think it was £9m net per season during his spell there. Kompany spent more than Dyche did in 8 years in one summer.

Excellently put..

Do people actually think it’s not possible that dinosaur Dyche doesn’t actually know another style of football except hoofball?

Explain the £25m Beto signing.. if you want implement a different style of football, why not sign players who are likely to adapt to that?! He brought 7ft giraffes like Beto and Weghorst because that’s all he knows. Gets keepers, like Pickford does now, taking every free kick near half-way line and hoofing it into the box but here we’re led to believe he’s trying to play football but the players are crap and needs better ones …complete BS.

He got the points, fair play to him but the dinosaur is simply incapable of coaching and producing anything else. Over 10 years of management is proof of that.

Means to an end and what the goal of the team and club is...which is what @GrandOldTeam alludes to.

"Played crap hoofball at Burnley"

Burnley's entire net spend under Dyche was about £30mill. The goal of the club was to stay in the premier league under less means than every other club in it. Look at Burnley now having spent £100mill to play football "the right way". Another example are Brighton had to spend £100+mill to survive in the league playing football the right way.

You cannot label a manager to say "he won't change" when he's never had the tools to attempt change. All he's ever had is finding a way to stay in the premier league with limited resources. And for the most part ..it's worked.

You can’t argue about the job he did and the points he achieved. His football style is the question.. nothing with ever change

"Explain the £25m Beto signing"

Sure, we have a DOF.

The transfers we paid money for, Danjuma, Chermiti and Beto - would have been driven by Thelwell. Rightly so. I doubt Dyche even heard of Chermiti or Beto. Also, the shortlist is decimated when it's £0 available upfront.

Was Gnonto a stereotypical Dyche player? Gyökeres? We tried for both.

As for Weghorst - Burnley lost Wood on a release fee to a relegation rival, and he was a panic, reactive attempt to replace him late January to stay up. Dyche's view?

Burnley boss Sean Dyche said: "Wout is a player that our scouts have been strong on for some time and we feel that he can add to all that we do at Burnley Football Club.

"His signing is a continued show of the club's and team's development. We wish Wout well as he earns the right to push our group forwards."

Hardly a ringing endorsement.

Translation: Sod all to do with me.

agree to disagree.. If he’s given a war chest, he doesnt look to sign a creative number 10, pacy winger or forward. He’s on the hunt for a cross between Peter Crouch and Adebayo Akinfenwa.

It's as simple as that, IMO.

And for the entitled, or perhaps misguided amongst us - we're still very much a team whose objective is to remain in the Premier League.

Questions around whether he can progress us are parked until we're not a basket case of a football club.

1 - You can't say that it wouldn't due to resources
2 - If he's successful and getting points on the board...why is it an issue?

Here's one...

Iraola at Bournemouth is shortlisted for manager of the season. Currently 10th on 48 points.

Dyche has accumulated 45 points this season, 3 points shy of him currently.

Do you know how much Bournemouth spent this season?

Exactly the end bit.

No manager in world football could progress us in our current climate. Thats my view.

Hoof ball,I remember the thrilling keep ball we had under Martinez we won the possession percentages week after week while sliding towards the trap door.No doubt we'll have to endure another window with a shoestring budget so Dyche is the safe hands we need. But as you say he's been labelled so it'll stick whatever he does.

Him and Thelwell agreed on Gryokous and Gnonto though...so that already ticks off 2 of the check list

and the mess were in to them?

mental he got shortlisted

again let’s overlook everton

Said it before, but I dont care about style.

He improved on last season and hes got us clear with plenty to spare, so for that reason he should be given a chance to see if he can do the same again.

Whilst we dont have money to pay our leccy bill, we probably dont have the luxury of sacking him and making an attractive package to somebody else.

So for now, In Dyche we Trust.
