2023/24 Sean Dyche

It's not really a new problem for Everton either.
Our best since 19/20 was 47 under Carlo, and worst 34 under Lampard/Dyche. We are better better defensively under Dyche, but he won't turn us into goal machines with better players even.

We scored 44, 47, 43 and 34 in our last 4 seasons finishing with 3 different managers, which makes 42 on average. Just the number of Goals I think we will be around 40. These are values for a team in the lower midfield or below.

Expectations are too high. Shouldn’t be expecting wins, that would be silly.

He is a perennial loser. Even after his decent season (s?) at Burnley, no one better has ever gone for him.

Only reason he is with us now is because it was cheap and easy.
He's not even cheap, he is one of the 20 best-paid managers in world football, not including his avoiding relegation bonus. Is there anything on his CV that warrants that? The wages we pay for mediocrity is mind blowing.

We are better defensively under dyche because that's the emphasis, every player except the isolated striker is tasked to be extremely defensive minded , we need a balance ,also I never understood our pressing it's very disjointed we press in spurts and dwight mcneil who can be decent but is very sluggish is apart of the press

Yes, obviously. I've been saying that at least 10x. But got tired repeating myself with the same things unlike others. Numbers show +7 goals (from atrocious to bad) and 1 less conceded comparing to the same time last year. Goal output is less atrocious in other words.

The 3 week break should not only focus on the players, but give this Brexit voting toad time to self reflect on what clearly isn’t working.

He comes back and there’s a clear change, then good for him. It’ll show he is capable of changing and it’ll benefit the club in the long run.

He doesn’t, then he simply deserves the dinosaur manager tag and he can happily seek employment at another club

Can someone specify where that 6th best paid manager in the league came from? It's total madness if true.

As if a 2.5 year contract wasn't silly enough.

If he tries making them play a more possession based style and they can't do it, then people will blame his coaching.

Where has anyone ever once mentioned possession based football?? You have this notion in your head then when people say we need to improve then that means turning us into Man City.

In all honesty, have you ever seen a successful Everton side?

From time to time they do play a more posession based style and no, theyre no good at it,
most times, they go long and theyre not good at that either.
It's not down to the players, it's down to the coaching.
Pretty much all his first XI are capable footballers. The only questionable position is right back. The other positions are all filled with mid table players who should be doing much better.
If you look at where it breaks down, it's usually the same, whether it's long ball or possession based. Our off the ball positioning and movement is terrible.
Players arent creating space for each other, they're not dragging opposition players out of position, they're not covering for each other.

It's always the same. Say DCL gets the ball (prob a long ball from JP) he gets forced wide but the winger has gone inside and there's a defender blocking that path, now we have no strikers and for some reason no midfielders have shown for the ball, theyre all back in the middle outside the box along with the winger. Guaranteed, DCL will do one of two things, kick it off the defender in the hopes of winning a corner or pass it to the full back which drags our midfielders back to the half way line and kills the attack.

We've done well on corners but it's fairly clear why, we box out the keeper and load the box with big players but opposition managers are on to this now. Doesnt help when Garner cant beat the first man and we dont change anything.

This team are well capable of passing a ball, they're smart enough to follow more complicated tactics. We've lost a lot of quality over the past few years but weve also shipped out a lot of dross.

This isnt on the players.

We don't need to have more possession

We want to see more energy, more aggression, more intensity, getting the ball forward quicker, and above all, a bit of composure in front of goal.
It's the fundamental lack of using the ball well 90% of the time when we have it that's the problem. And getting a collective nosebleed in front of goal.
