2025/26 Seamus Coleman

Should bring back the Reserve League/ Central League (or whatever it was called years ago) so that senior players have regular games when not in the first eleven, or to get match fit.

The League Cup is there to be won not to "give players some minutes".

Seamus is still my hero though & always will be.
Love Seamus, cracking player in his prime, no issue with him being on the coaching staff either.

Ild like to make my own mind up on that one though.

At least with Patterson we saw more than enough...too much in fact....to understand he was being left out because he's outrageously bad. Ild seen Patterson play a good few times before he came down here and confirmed what a stinker he is. With Aznou we've seen nothing of the sort.

Let's see him play before we write him off.

….i’m not writing the lad off, I actually like his pedigree. I just think it’s clear they believe he’s not a first teamer at this point in time.

….no, it shows Aznou is nowhere near good enough, as it is with Patterson on the other flank.

when a player fails to get game time, it’s usually down to the player.
Bit of a worry Coleman played left back ahead of Aznouin cup, given the last time he played there was probably his previous worst game. Thought it was about getting minutes in his legs, seems not as not been utilised since. So seems it was absolute necessity.

Is he even getting minutes in the u23s? Seems a bit strange him being in the squad when he's not getting any game time elsewhere, and even more baffling that he was selected ahead of Aznou in a crucial cup game. The decision to award him yet another contract looks more jobs for the boys by the week.

….i think it’s clear that Coleman was largely given a contract because of his influence in the dressing room, especially during a period of change with the ground move and so many new players coming in.

I actually wonder why posters are so hung up on it as I’m sure it’s not the reason why we failed to bring in an effective, authentic RB.

As per the Bobble quote, the Manager and coaches don’t think Aznou is PL ready, they’re having to work on his defensive skill set. It means that when Mykolenko is unavailable we make-do with Garner or others. Coleman still seen as superior to Coleman at RB.

Makes perfect sense, every manager we’ve had talks about his extraordinary influence.

People need a sense of perspective about this. Take the long view of what he gave us for years before a sharp fall off in terms of what he can do now.

He's easily done enough to be in credit with fans.
Agree with being in credit...up to a point.

He still had credit two seasons ago. It had almost run out last season, but letting him start the last match at Goodison was fitting. That should have been the suitable moment for both Seamus and the club to end it.

How do you view the fact he's again made himself available for Ireland despite Everton being thin at full-back and with his very ropey fitness history?

But you're forgetting intangibles like the work he does with new players bedding them in. He's also played more minutes this season than a lot of the squad we have currently, let's not forget that.

Has that been a waste of money - and his salary as far as we all know is not what it was?

And there's also the possibility / probability he's learning his coaching on the job in order to slot in at the club and pass on value to EFC in that way.

IMO even now he's a net contributor to this club...unlike certain other players down the years who've stolen a living out of it by relocating to the treatment room for a season or two.

Aznou hasn't had any chance to shine here. Im not bothered what he's done elsewhere and who he played for. I just want to see him play.

The comparisons others are making with Patterson are well wide of the mark. Chalk and cheese in terms of what we can rightly claim based on knowledge.

Whatever he does away from the pitch is fair enough. I'm sure he's a good influence in certain ways.
However, he and the club should have both decided his playing days are over.

While he is still in the squad and therefore providing cover at fullback, we will fail to fully address the issues we have, just because "We've still got Coleman as cover if needed"

We failed to solve the RB issue this summer primarily because Patterson wouldn't go anywhere. He's clearly running his contract down.
