I dont think he's anywhere near good enough for the PL.

Employing Gerrard at Leeds is the last thing they should do.

The SPL seems to be his style. If their new owners hand him some cash for players I reckon he'd be back up there again.
They'd adore him at Leeds.
He'll fail tho.
Think the current news of takeovers at Rangers is just appeasing the hoards, still a long way to go.

I think both Rangers and Celtic are big enough that a “name” manager isn’t out of the question for either

I could easily see a recent sackee from a Prem or Championship club going in for it

Ultimately I think Rangers’ best hope is to develop from within

They can’t outspend Celtic on players, so spend what money they have on infrastructure like the youth facilities and on further renovations to Ibrox

Have top class youth facilities and a top ground, and take the time to develop a talented batch of young players along with some experienced and talented journeymen who won’t break the bank

Outlast Celtic over the long haul

That’s basically what Celtic did to them

Murray spent them into a hole whilst Fergus stretched every penny and brought in much needed stability

The problem is that it will take time and football supporters are a notably fickle bunch

Celtic and Rangers have very rarely had good youth systems. They don't need to as they know they can just cherry pick the best young players from the rest of Scotland.

And Rangers don't actually need to do much to compete with Celtic - just build a team that is much better than the rest of the league so that they don't drop silly points, and it just comes down to the head to head results between them.

That is what they have always done historically - as soon as a third team starts looking like they might compete, just sign their best players from them. The new firm in the 80s was the only exception as both teams had so many good players coming through at the same time that the old firm couldn't buy them all

Well done to Falkirk, some season that!
I'm just back from the game, it was a great night and great to see the town bouncing.
A poor referee almost ruined the game but Falkirk's skill and tenacity overcame Hamilton's persistent fouling and timewasting.
Congratulations to all the Falkirk supporters who have stuck with their club through thick and thin, back to back championships with next to no money is some achievement.
We just have to hope Stenhousemuir can make their play offs tomorrow.

Isn't that what happens in most leagues, the bigger teams sign the best players?

You can't seriously think the old Celtic board regularly raided the biscuit tin to sign all the top players in Scotland? Every pound Celtic spent was a pound less going into their pockets.

Good result for Stennie, thoroughly enjoyed my day out there last season.

He has a point, even though La liga has been dominated by Madrid and Barca, teams like Atletico, Betos, Seville and Bilbao have been able to keep their decent players. For quite a while Celtic and Rangers have just bought decent players nurtured by Hibs, Hearts, Dundee United and others. Only other place it's as bad as Scotland is Germany with Bayern. Most of Ajaxs great young players, same with PSV and Feyenoord have come through their academies. I think that has played a huge role in demise of Scottish game. Celtic tend to buy foreign talent, who have no loyalty to Celtic, and they jigger off somewhere else, such as Dembele and VVD.
