Player Valuation: £70m
This may have gone under the radar because I haven't seen many people talk about it but has anyone noticed we are seriously bad at the act of putting the ball in the back of the opponent's net this season? No? Just me then.

Let's not get into reminiscing about the Lukaku glory days or talk about what could have been if Giroud's wife didn't ruin our transfer window.

Instead, let's discuss who and how we can play to start doing these 'goal' things.

Do we keep 1 up front or start with 2? Do we play with a quick support forward with a slower/stronger one? Do we start with 1 and end with 2 or vice versa? Can we even risk playing with 2 up front with our defence?

Personally, I think Rooney is the best striker of the ball out of the lot of them but that's really all he has going for him. He ends up far too deep a lot of the time. At times he's alongside Jags at the halfway line.

DCL has been getting the nod a lot and although he does try, he doesn't quite have the ability to make something happen often enough. He did score against Chelsea and Sunderland in the League Cup but not in the Prem this season. He does however have 3 assists in the Prem.

Mirallas has a good mix of pace and ability and could be played more central, supporting a striker. Same with Vlasic and Lookman. Though they all would be better suited to staying in their natural wider positions. Just a thought, like.

Niasse is another who does put in effort with a decent shot but is limited ability-wise. He's also not the quickest.

Sandro Ramirez has really struggled but I think there's a quality player in there whose confidence is at rock bottom. He is young (22) and I would like to see him come good for us.

edit: just noticed this thread was made before while I was typing this one. mods feel free to do whatever

DCL and Oumar for me. Goals have been in tight supply but both these young guys will redress this imo.
Rhino bleeds blue and if he can impart that passion to Oumar and Dom, then we are in business goal wise

To be honest at this point I'd take the old one.

It's truly sad when I'm looking at Beckford, Marcus Bent, James Beattie, and Jo through rise tinted specs and thinking "halcyon times".

Serious point: a lot of us are rightly angry with Koeman / Walsh / the board about not recruiting a quality striker knowing Lukaku was off. But it's been a problem for years. As a club we've just not invested in this area adequately for a long period.

None of our forward options is the complete package, shame we can't body-morph them into some kind of striking hybrid. DCL has physicality and storng aerial prowess but is completely found wanting when it comes to shooting and anticipation. Niasse has very poor technique but seems to make decent runs and has some predatory instinct about him. Sandro seems to have poor work rate and hold up play but from his time in Malaga he demonstrated excellent shooting technique from all kinds of distance and angles and does have a sharpness about him. I don't include Rooney in this because he simply refuses to hold a position and drifts all over the place. Just truly a very bleak time right now.

Listening to the Premier League's resident Bear Gryll's survival expert talking to Andy Gray and Richard Keys before, Big Sam, he said that it was imperative that we sort our defence out first and who could argue with him. I think the Goodison faithful may need to brace themselves for some long hard slogs, even if we have to start going for 0-0's, we just need clean sheets on the board to give us a platform to build from.

I thought Mirallas offered much more threat tbh. Niasse was woeful. DCL doesn't carry enough threat either but at least performs a role for the team.
Thought we looked much more potent with oumar up there, he's a mixed bag but he offers more threat and has better movement than dcl atm who looks completely lost anywhere near the opponents box, kids not ready yet
