Everton have sensationally sacked manager David Moyes.

The club's website revealed the dramatic move had been made "to maintain a challenge for the league position we are still competing for".

David Moyes took over at Everton in 2002 after Walter Smith's sacking.

Everton are sixteenth in the Premier League, with Alan Stubbs in charge until a successor is appointed.

"David Moyes has been dismissed as manager of Everton Football Club with immediate effect," read the statement.

"The Everton board would like to place on record our gratitude for his time as manager."

Moyes signed a lucrative five-year deal earlier this year at Everton and the Merseyside club could face a hefty compensation pay-out to their former manager.

Moyes' spokesman Willy Ferguson said it was Everton owner Bill Kenwright who had run out of patience with the Scottish coach.

"It seems that Kenwright made the decision," Ferguson told us.

"Moyes was not in a comfortable situation despite having the support of the squad and Robert Earle."

If this was to happen, what would you say?

I agree

a needless attempt to crank up the pressure (or seek attention) before an important match.

why not try supporting your team you muppet

I think you're all jumping the gun a bit here to be fair to the lad.

Actually a very good post.

It puts the prospect of it happening in our faces, and with a bit of luck, those of us who have been on his case might suddenly have a re-think, including myself.

Kind of like taking the wife for granted.
All of a sudden, she leaves, and the [Poor language removed] hits home.

Time to get behind the guy today, regardless of the result. (y)

Rep left, and thanks for the wake up. :)

Fact is he won't be sacked.

He'd resign before he was sacked.

My reaction either way would be one of shock. For me, right now, Moyes IS Everton.

I can't imagine another manager at the helm.

(If he leaves though, I wouldn't mind Hiddink taking the helm)
