"Cancelling his contract " whatever that is does not equate necessarily to paying up his contract , indeed it would make no sense to do so , because there is always a possibility that a Cadiz or an Huesca might take a punt on him for a season if we pay say half or 3/4 of his wages.

What does make sense is agreeing to vary his contract by terminating it now for an agreed consideration ( eg a proportion of the wage that he would have received had he seen out the remaining year of his contract. )

So in simple terms Everton and Sandro can agree to terminate now and instead of him getting say £5 million in wages for that year he receives £2 million but is free to go and negotiate a new contract elsewhere.

It's like a scene with Jim Carrey in one of those Ace Ventura-movies

If he is that bad, whats the incentive for him to agree to a cancellation?

I assume we would pay the vast bulk of his wages if he found a club to take him on loan.

If there are no takers then he'll be stuck without a club having received a portion of what he would be "entitled" to under his contract.

From his viewpoint, he might as well get full pay and try his luck in a years time or in January, or simply retire afterwards or play semi-professionally.
