Sandhills station

Why are so many lemmings standing there waiting for a train? I appreciate the locality is helpful but surely anyone with two braincells would realise this is not the station of choice. If you’re able to walk to another station you’d be soft to even attempt this one.

One question I’d ask, is there any soccer bus? If so they need a few of these outside the ground to move people into town or a similar train route. I can’t believe people who are able to are standing for an hour to get a train.

It's usually not that bad, however Aintree had a meet on that was aimed at students; they must have emptied out roughly the same time as the game.

It meant the trains getting to Sandhills, heading towards Hunts Cross or Central, were already close to capacity if not already full.
Cheers - context is helpful.

There are plenty of Soccer buses to Lime St. ,Liverpool One and Bootle. They line up on Great Howard St but the jobsworth marshalls will only load one bus at a time . I got on a bus 5 mins after leaving the ground but it didn't move at all till 5-30 then went at walking pace. That's my last time on the bus. Walking is the best option but appreciate not everyone can manage it.
As for Sandhills station your choice is wait 20+ mins for a train out of town or walk to Moorfields which is probably better.
All in all the post-match transport shambles will put people off going. Great Howard St. needs to be closed to traffic to allow buses to get away.

Modern stadia should be built with public transport hubs next to them or shouldn't be built. The Etihad has a tram stop next to it. They should have sorted it out before they opened the stadium.

oh yes I’m not disagreeing, the infrastructure needs much improving, I’m just saying i imagine thats what will happen if it doesnt improve

also it should be on the club too not just the council, if we are expecting fans to come and support the club should be stumping up some of the cash, i don’t think that should all fall on the city region which i imagine is cash strapped compared to a global football brand with billionaire owners

plenty of shuttle buses on but not sure how well they get down the road after the game

in the main i think most people are somewhat hostile to walking and public transport. i used to walk from town to goodison and it was boss. everyone i spoke to about it thought i was mad

Close great howard st. Turn the buses around at Leeds street. Keep ' em coming and going.
One in 5 to go through to town for those less able.

That tram stop at The Etihad is a joke, me and my daughter were queuing the other week after the England women game against Brazil. Got fed up of people barging in, pushing etc. and ended up walking back into the city centre. I said I’d never moan about our stadium again

I went to Aintree. Last race was 3.50PM. It was packed with youngsters/students. After the last race lots of them were staying as the bars remained open and the music was on. I got the train from central station to Aintree. It was ram packed in there and when the train arrived it had just 4 carriages, even though they knew the races were on. It was mental on the train, everyone crammed in. Lots got left behind at the station as the staff stopped people getting on as train was full. Platform still had hundreds waiting as train moved away. Every station we went past had people waiting who could not get on. Station looked busy as I left the racecourse, but I had already decided to walk to the Black Bull and jumped a bus from there to avoid the madness. I guess the majority of the youngsters would have been heading back to the city centre to continue the party.

By the way. When we play Forest on 6th December, Aintree is on again. Be warned.

I go watch City sometimes if we are away and mate gets a ticket for me. Only 15min walk back to Piccadily Station from Etihad. Nothing like our trek back to Lime Street.

Last race that day is 3-15 but race crowds leaving will still conflict with us getting away from Sandhills . Best off walking to Moorfields .
