Sandhills station

The councils response is given in this BBC article which largely focuses on the impact to businesses around BMD.

However, councillor Liam Robinson commented:

“Last week, 10,000 fans attended the first of three trial games at the £500m waterfront stadium.

Robinson acknowledged there had been some traffic problems linked to road closures and had taken on board concerns about poor street lighting.

Robinson said the test event had been an "important milestone", but acknowledged that the transport and parking arrangements had been criticised.

He said there could not be a "parking free for all" in the area which he said was "starting to grow" through investment.

Public transport infrastructure was also criticised, with fans claiming that a "fanzone" at Sandhills station had been overcrowded with only a fraction of the crowd expected when the stadium is at capacity.

Robinson said improvements to signage, a new foot bridge and the introduction of eight carriage trains on match-days should help.

He added that meetings were taking place with the Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram, Everton and fan groups in the coming days.“

If the council think that will sort it they are dreaming.

I’m surprised the Police aren’t getting involved as it will cause major public dis-order, especially when you add in a few thousand away fans.

Read an article about all the businesses around there kicking off about the blanket no parking restrictions.

All I think is why have the council done that?

Even in the BBC article above, they interview a guy who runs the Blackstock Market and comedy club, in Vauxhall and his bookings have dropped 60% since the blanket parking ban. Like you, I can't begin to get my head around how and why the council thought it would be a good idea to put the restrictions in all year round.

The same reason they have ended the free parking after 7PM in the city, they see it as their opportunity to profit.

I get that though. Most city centres do it or reverse it (pay in the day, stop by half 8). They have to make money and people pay it. You'll never find free parking or a place with restrictions in major cities.

But to just have a blanket ban rather than have charge times is mad.

Such an odd decision.

The money they're not making from allowing parking and charges is mad. Unless there's disputes

Has anyone listened to this?

Genuinely astonished at Rotherham’s arrogance and total lack of responsibility he’s taking.

Listened to it this morning, felt the same as you. Basically no cover being provided for 'fan zone' because fans will be wet on the walk to the station anyway, extra trains won't be provided on Sundays or for night games because it's too expensive. Pathetic responses, given an easy ride by the presenters as well

He took no responsibility, thought he deserved credit for helping Everton out even though he's a Red - and then started saying he didn't want to hear from us about negative things he already knew about. Like we'd magically know what those things are.

This man's PR skills are staggeringly bad.

Agree with that. Strange that he said they were aiming for everything to be in place for late August/early September, so after the season has started!
